Anyone wanna help me by providing some feedback for The Kitsune? I’ve been working on it (and The Tengu) on and off, and need some new eyes to look it over.

The Shadow isn’t about what you are, but what you are not. The Shadow is the dark horse, the puppet master. They’re the one your parents warned you about, a close friend who secretly hates you, someone you trust who’s always lusted after you– the predator, the outsider, the stranger on the playground. Like the Chosen, the Shadow can shift the tone of the game. They take refuge in obscurity, working behind the scenes and breaking the rules of the game. The Shadow is the big bad villain to the Chosen’s hero.

Greetings!

Greetings!

Greetings!

I have enjoyed Monsterhearts for a long time now, and I’ve been working on designing a Skin of my very own. I thought I would share it with this community to see if I could maybe get some feedback on it.

So, introducing the Genius:

The Genius is too clever by half. They’re the guy who won’t shut up about Nietzsche, or the girl who spends her lunch period browsing conspiracy theory websites that prove the government is run by psychic cuttlefish. Anyone who disagrees with them is an idiot, anything bad that happens to them is because of other people’s shortcomings. And every problem has a material solution, be it a ray gun, a robot clone, or an army of psychic cuttlefish.

Enjoy!

It’s still technically Halloween where I am! So how about one more Monsterhearts skin before we all take down our decorations?

Here’s The Unchained, a Jekyll-and-Hydeish treat for you. As always this skin is free to download and distribute. All feedback is welcome, especially from actual play!

Dunno why I didn’t put this up before.

Dunno why I didn’t put this up before. It’s part one of a Monsterhearts AP we recorded for the Idle Red Hands Podcast back in March.

“So a Ghoul, a Ghost, and a Frankenstein’s monster walk into a high school classroom…

No, seriously. With Lyal unable to record this week due to a lost voice (imagine that), we’re bringing you another Idle Red Hands first: an actual play of Joe McDaldno’s Monsterhearts game, which is being MCed for us by Chris. This is actually our third session of the game, though we recap the previous session’s events to bring both our new player, Alan, and our listeners up to speed on what’s happened in the story so far.

As we have a new player joining us (and a few regular players with short memories), we do go over some of the game’s rules and mechanics. Though not in any coherent way. This recording isn’t meant to teach people how to play Monsterhearts; it’s more of an example of what happens during a session of the game. If you’d like to though, you can download the Player Reference Sheet and MC Reference Sheet to follow along with what’s going on behind the scenes.

Please be aware that this episode is largely uncut and unedited, and contains both adult language and adult situations. Listener discretion is advised.

If you’re going to Indiecon in the UK in a couple of weeks and would like to play some multi-session Monsterhearts…

The Gargoyle swoops in just before Halloween. As with all my Monsterhearts skins, it’s free to download and distribute. Please let me know if you use it in your game – good feedback helps me revise my skins and make them better!

There may be one more skin coming before the holiday, we’ll see. Revised version of Skins for the Skinless with any/all new skins added will be coming on Halloween day.

I’m thinking about running a Monsterhearts game set in the early 1980s in a UK Borstal.

I’m thinking about running a Monsterhearts game set in the early 1980s in a UK Borstal. (http://www.infoplease.com/encyclopedia/society/borstal-system.html#ixzz2iNC5iuyO , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borstal)

I’ve no actual experience of a Borstal, so my game will be based in the Fiction of a Borstal (in Film and Book), and the very nature of the place will probably be drawn more from player expectations than from any grounding in the reality of such places.

I do however have a concern. Borstals were correctional facilities for ‘delinquent boys aged 16 to 21′. As a result all the characters are going to be male.

Has anyone tried running Monsterhearts in a single sex environment? Did it work? What about ‘sex moves’ or ‘turning someone on’? What do I need to look out for / be aware of, that may not have cropped up when I’ve run Monsterhearts before?
