Played a fun game of Freebooters on the Frontier via Hangouts last night. My goal was to try to deliver a solid 4-hour game, but it stretched out to nearly 5. Have to pare down my approach, maybe set a limit at 3 players?

Thanks to David Perry, Horst Wurst, Jeremy Strandberg, and John Marron for bringing their respective A-games. Any GM who gets one of you at their table should consider themselves lucky (like I do).

Well after a few weeks of disappointment when all the Kickstarters that had been scheduled to deliver in July failed to appear I got lucky and one delivered on time. Alas for the Awful Sea was estimated for delivery for August 2017 and actually dropped today.

A well run Kickstarter overall with fairly regular updates, 28 since it started, and regular beta drops of the rules and pdf stretch goals during the production of the final copy. Taking AU$30,881 against a target of AU$800 this did really well and is an example that should be followed by a lot more authors.

The hard copies have the files sent to the printers tomorrow so we should see our rewards in print in a week or two (I think it’s Lightning Source).

Well done Storybrewers Roleplaying.

I’m a fan of the threat map (both the individual threats, and the “overall map”) from AW2e, but was disappointed by the latter not having a clean version for printing in the book.

So I cleaned it up, and stuck them both in a single PDF for printing off for sessions. Thought I’d share it in case anyone found it useful.

So, I’m looking at a mechanism for my Anomalis project, where the PCs shared credibility is a driver for the opposition the GM use, and an indication how close to a disastrous end the game comes. Worth mentioning is the game is a pbta based game, where the players takes roles as scientists and researchers in a secret facility trying to survive a catastrophe. In short I’m thinking the following;

All players share a credibility rating (as a scientific team, maybe as a progress clock) representing their employer’s trust in them. The game revolves around the catastrophe, and they must survive, save their work, and reassure their employer they are worthy being saved. During play they have to interact with other inhabitants in the research facility with their authority moves, to survive, to make things happen, and maybe escape. If they fail their authority moves, they accumulate harm to their credibility, and as it decreases the stakeholders/employers trust in them. If it get low, the employer get annoyed, and may even send in troops to clean the place up.

My question; Have you seen mechanics in any other pbta game dealing with this kind of shared trust, especially if it is tied to opposition?

It takes some gumption to make a post-apocalyptic game using Powered by the Apocalypse considering where the system got started. It’ll take more than one lifetime to put a world back together after it’s fallen apart. Legacy: Life Among the Ruins dares to do both. Aaron takes a look at this after-the-end game where the adventures and struggles are passed down through the generations, and comments on what makes the game different, what makes it worth while, and the ongoing Kickstarter for the game’s second edition.

Worlds In Peril Conditions Hack

Worlds In Peril Conditions Hack

Worlds In Peril Conditions Hack

Worlds in Peril Conditions were very awkward for me. I found it difficult to try to come up with unique tags for every bit of damage that fit into the Minor, Moderate, and Critical categories. I didn’t like that the severity of the condition applied to PCs was solely determined by my (as a GM/ EIC) interpretation of the fiction. Most of all PC’s had to spend choices from their roll with the Take Down move to increase the severity of the conditions, but, other than my narration, there was no difference in a Minor and Critical Condition effects on a villian. It seemed awkward and didn’t really add to the fiction of our game.

But I always liked the Cortex Plus Marvel games stress tracks so here is my first stab at adding them to Worlds in Peril as well my attempt at modding the moves to cover the change.

I’m pretty new to writing PbtA moves, so feedback is definitely welcome.

Some how I completely missed Fallen Empires. I just checked it out, and man it looks cool!
