What’s BLOOD BALL you ask? It’s the SPORT OF THE FUTURE pitting two teams of gladiators on a field of battle in a contest of mortal combat where the winner must score the most points…and survive! It involves suped-up dirtbikes, exploding chrome orbs covered in spikes, sweet jumps, and slam dunks!

Being a big fan of deadly sport movies like The Running Man, Death Race 2000, and Rollerball, I’ve decided to add my own futuristic combat game into our Sprawl setting and the Laser Hawks are the current reigning champions (I wanted an excuse to make a logo, haha). I’m considering writing up a mission involving the team being hired to sabotage a big game (since most of the teams are corporate owned), and maybe some custom moves/rules just in case the players end up wanting to compete.

So anyhow, I thought it might be fun if you guys wanted to contribute teams to the BLOOD BALL league. Share your names, logos, hot shot star players, etc.

Having just run a game at a PbtA only con last weekend I thought that a quick guide to the playbooks might help people make choices rather than reading through the sheets every time.

The players should be able to visualise what a particular playbook does in-game with a one or two sentence reference.

I’m thinking that while characters from novels might work – A Soldier is like Turner from Count Zero is good but something from film would be even better as more people are likely to have seen a movie.

Let’s have some suggestions for defining playbooks via movie characters.

Let’s build a series of cyberpunk impressions that one could slot in his description of the Neon and Chrome future. Just a sentence or 2 to give some colour to you Sprawl. Let me start:

A gang of young scooter freaks leaning against their bikes breathing hard drugs through cheap plastic asthma inhalers.

Neo-Khrisna monks with bright orange robes and shaved heads except they have a single ponytail made of twisted cables in the back.
