Fun idea: delayed rolling.

Fun idea: delayed rolling.

I doubt this is an original idea but I think it’s worth mentioning for others.

Ship Engineer decides he wants to attach a Class 2 rifle to the outside of a Class 2 shuttle so it can be fired from inside. He has the skills and tools to do it, so it’s a pretty normal Patch Up roll. However…

I told him that he can do it, but will make the Patch Up roll before he fires it in combat. We’ll see how much skill he has when it matters.

I’m seriously considering running the adventure from the White Star book using Uncharted Worlds. With all of the new careers and origins that Sean Gomes has been releasing lately how would you create a “Star Knight”?

I have a questions on the class of an item.

I have a questions on the class of an item. Other than giving narrative baseline for how difficult certain items are to get and their overall worth (and awesomely saying we are carrying class 3 goods when docking), is there anything else it does? if you have a custom class 3 sword can you use that in a barter roll to trade it away for something else? just wondering.

Thanks!

My favorite hard move from last session:

The pilot was left on the ship with another PC’s 3 man crew (criminal, armed). Communications are down and the other PCs are on a wreck which has now come under fire by a Slaver ship.

The pilot decides to order the crew on board to man the defense turrets, because they’re going in to save the others. I tell him that they’re liable to listen, but the risk is that they will react quite poorly if he fails. He rolls a 4.

“You hear silence over the comms, but the internal sensors do register the door to the turret opening and closing. Huh, a totally different sensor just registered your shuttle’s engine starting. Oh and it looks like the cargo door is open, but the sensors have been hacked.”

He ended up remotely Accessing his shuttle, shutting off the engines, and locking the doors.

No sure what’s gonna happen to Donny when we resolve the whole situation. He tried to book it with their shuttle…

After doing a great deal of reading here, and playing in a number of PbtA games, I can no longer resist the urge to try running a PbP game of Uncharted Worlds on Tavernkeeper.

https://www.tavern-keeper.com/

In the interest of keeping with the PbtA concept, I have thus far resisted all my baser GM instincts to pre-fab a setting and systems/worlds. To that end, I was wondering if I might solicit some setting ideas here so that I can set a game up on the TK site (the sooner the better). My hope is to also incorporate the new FBH playbooks into the game.

Ultimately, I intend to run through the standard creation process as indicated in the UW book with any players I might attract. But, I was hoping take the pulse of those here and get a feel for a preference. Is it more likely that potential players might be interested in their creation of the full universe? Or, do people tend to prefer some idea at the outset (such as, say, a solar system alone … a massive galaxy like Traveller …a small number of systems … or something else). My instinct is to create the base setting (probably stealing from some other setting so that I have some background and maps to go on) and allow it to be modified and populated by the players’ ideas.

Any thoughts on this?

If you had cybernetic implants/prosthetics as an Asset, what designs and tags would you give them?

Hey I came across this unofficial android origin. It looks pretty decent (though War Mind is an oddball that evokes D&D style combat-is-all play).

Anyone else have custom Careers or Origins they’ve used?

Hello all. I’ve never played an PbtA game before, but am considering introducing UW to my group.

Can someone explain how descriptions effect the game? A lot of weapon and vehicle upgrades don’t seem to have rules, just descriptions. Also clothing types, follower descriptions, wound descriptions etc… Is this all color, or is there some AW convention I am not understanding?

Secondly, t does not appear that the GM can adjust the difficulty of a roll besides requiring a Face Adversity before the intended action. Is there precedent for giving players penalties for environmental effects, injuries etc…, or are all rolls the same difficulty, with the consequences for failure upping the stakes in difficult situations?

Acquisition for example: a Class 4 item is just as easy to find as a Class 0, assuming the Market sells both. Right?

I like the idea quite a bit, so I’m gonna use it in my current game. It’s not very PbtA-y, but I like the idea of managing individual wealth as part of the main game mechanic.

A usage die is a die, say a d6, that you roll when used; if it rolls a 1, you reduce the die size. If you roll a 1 on a d4, you are out of that resource.

I’m going to try modeling player starting wealth with a d6. When a Acquisition is made without offering cargo, the usage die is rolled. Things that are below your means (and thus don’t trigger Acquisition) don’t require a roll.

I’d also consider sales of goods, faction favors, and things like that, to trigger the opposite roll – a max value raises the die size.

Just figured I’d throw this out there, if anyone else wanted a bit more crunch for Wealth handling.
