The advancement option I gave to each playbook (minus The King of course) indicates that you join a group of some sort, which is essentially membership into, or possibly even leadership of a group of people who have resources you can gain access to.

What do you think of this advancement option? Does it excite you as a player for your protagonist to be able to enlist in a group like this?

Here are the group names I have so far sorted by Archetype.

Aware – Resistance Group

Dragon – Tribe of Wyrms

Expert – Guild

Fae – Faeire Court

Hallowed – Group of Believers

Hunter – Hunting Party

Immortal – Ancient Order

Oracle – Seer’s Circle

Specter – Body of Ghosts

Tainted – Cult

Vamp – Vampire Clan

WIzard – Council of Magi

Wolf – Wolf Pack

The ones I’m luke-warm on are Guild, Cult, and Group of Believers. Got any suggestions? Also, do you like that they have names and an implied direction/membership or would you prefer something open-ended, like “You join a group of ___“?

Urban Shadows this week. Here’s something I sketched after the last session… fun use of the “Practiced Liar” move.

Started a new short campaign of Urban Shadows last night. Had two players, a Tainted and an Aware. The Tainted grew up in a catholic run orphanage and was made to believe his powers are evil and he must repent for them (oh and his biological father is also his Priest). The Aware is a local bartender who is dating a Vampire who feeds on people’s pain and misery.  So a lot of unhealthy relationships out of the gate but it made for some great scenes and loads of good drama.

First session dealt with the Tainted’s best friend coming back to town, apparently he’s now a werewolf and is back in town to find the wolf who bit him, although all of this is unknown to the Tainted. They caught up and a few creepy things happened to both of them throughout the session.

The Aware was business as usual. As a bartender in the best bar in town loads of people come to her. She met a newcomer to town from Ireland who was keeping a close eye on her co-worker and friend and there seems to be some sort of family resemblance there.

So yeah, a great day in the life of session culminating in a near bloody bar brawl between the vampire boyfriend and the Tainted, with his werewolf buddy to back him up.

Good times. Looking forward to next session. It’s nice to be back in the MC seat, feels good.

Session #4 of our ongoing Urban Shadows game is tonight. I’m really looking forward to it since we haven’t had a chance to get together to play in six weeks. Last session my Aware’s fiance was killed and turned into a vampire by the “man” who killed her after Liam (my Aware) asked him to save her from death and two of the protagonists fled arrest from the police after witnesses saw one of them dumping a body in a nearby dumpster. It was epic and I can’t wait to see where things go from here.

Need a new name for my nearly complete Dragon archetype.

Need a new name for my nearly complete Dragon archetype. Was gong to go with The Wyrm but Monsterhearts is about to add in a Wyrm skin and it would be nice to use a different name. So i was thinking maybe Dragon, Drake, Wyvern, Dragonborn, Basilisk, etc.

Thoughts?

Thinking of changing the play-test to a closed model soon.

Thinking of changing the play-test to a closed model soon. If you’d like to officially be a part of the playtest and want access to the new links, let me know, k? I will probably send out an email blast with the links for those who I know are currently playing the game and create a mailing list for updates and questionnaires. Thanks!

I could see it go either way.
