He’s got same the blaise heel-ish grin. He looks sadistically pleasured by the hurting of his opponents. He loathes the audience (if it’s a Work or not with Michinoku is another question) just like them. He hits hard and does unnecessary flips in all his moves.

Do they owe everything to him? And if so, can we see a Superkick-off to determine who’s better?

So, I’ve been digging up some past matches that I’ve been especially fond of lately — Cesaro/Zayn from NXT ArRival, Bayley/Banks from NXT Takeover Brooklyn, Zayn/Nakamura from NXT Takeover Dallas (yeah, I’m a big NXT mark), and Nakamura/Kota from Wrestle Kingdom 9.

I want to hear from y’all as to what matches from the last several years you think are must-watch classics, and if possible, provide links or at least general directions on how to find such matches online or what show they were part of.  I’m in a mood to binge on wrestling.

I’m trying to find a match from a couple of years or so ago, and I can’t remember its exact date or what specific show it was on.  I want to say it was on an NXT Takeover show, but it might’ve been a regular episode.   It was a match between Sami Zayn and Cesaro (who had already been doing matches on the main WWE roster by this point), and the storyline was that Sami Zayn had little to no chance of actually beating Cesaro, but he kept getting back up again and again after each brutal takedown, and kept on fighting back.  Cesaro did eventually beat him clean, but by the end of the match, he’d gone from looking down at Zayn to actually respecting and being impressed by Zayn’s determination.  It was an awesome match.

Anyone know where I can find that?

Lucha Underground and NXT get into an invasion war, and start showing up to interfere on each others’ weekly show on a regular basis.  This leads to everything coming to a head at a special PPV, “NXT / Lucha Underground: Aztec Takeover”.

The card looks something like this:

Dash & Dawson vs. Aerostar & Drago

Mil Muertes vs. Hideo Itami

Rey Mysterio vs. Kallisto

Asuka vs. Pentagon Jr.

Samoa Joe vs. King Cuerno

Johnny Mundo vs. Austin Aries

Son of Havoc, Ivellise, and Angelico vs. Bayley, Sami Zayn, and Finn Balor

Prince Puma vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

It’ll never happen, because the WWE would be all “what are we getting out of this, we’re just giving exposure to our competitors”, but OH MAN, would that be fun to see.

Ok, I promised John Stavropoulos that I would recommend him some Shinsuke Nakamura matches.

Off the top of my head:

vs. Kota Ibushi from Wrestle Kingdom 9 – this was one of the first long singles matches I saw from Nakamura and I loved it, top to bottom (and Ibushi is FIVE FIRE EMOJIS himself, and might be in the WWE Cruiserweight Tournament!)

vs. AJ Styles from Wrestle Kingdom 10 – This was maybe only my third-favorite match on this card, but a lot of people liked it a whole lot and it may be a good entry point for folks who don’t follow any Japanese wrestling at all

vs. Okada from the 2015 G1 Tournament – Okada is my favorite wrestler in New Japan and this match is both of them at their best

Recommendations from other Nakamura fans I’ve received, but that I haven’t seen or don’t remember well personally include:

vs. Tanahashi, 2015 G1 FINAL

vs. Okada, 2014 G1 FINAL

vs. Tanahashi, Wrestle Kingdom 8

Any other recommendations?

Never heard it used in this way before but like it a lot more than the much more derisive term of a jobber.

” Arn told them about his definition of a carpenter, and what it meant to professional wrestling. He explained to them that a carpenter was someone who possessed a great deal of skill in the ring, often times more so than their opponent, but their job was to utilize their skill to make their opponent look like a million bucks. He talked about how much he hated the term jobber, and how just about everyone within the industry loathed that term, and quite frankly, they don’t appreciate the term, simply because of its negative connotation, and how misinformed many folks are about the importance of enhancement talent.”
