Do you need to be in control of a match to use a ROLE Move?

Do you need to be in control of a match to use a ROLE Move?

Do you need to be in control of a match to use a ROLE Move?

Example, I recently ran at Camp Nerdly, and the Jobber Broke Kayfabe to pin the Hardcore, and he rolled an 11! so the corwd was super shocked and into it!  He was in narrative control at the time.

The Hardcore only had 2 momentum, and was a heel, so he had enough momentum, but at spur of the moment I told him, he could interrupt for 1 momentum, and then roll “BREAK KAYFABE”

So whats the official?

Heads up!

Heads up!

Heads up! I am going to be running a WWWRPG Merch Sale for a little while to kick off the summer. Shirts are discounted to $15 (from $20) , book+shirt bundle to $30 (from $35), and posters start at $5 (from $7). I’ll be promoting it over the next week but you get the first tip!

To be perfectly honest this stuff hasn’t been selling how I’d hoped, so this is part testing to see if that’s a price sensitivity, and part “clearance” sale. I know a lot of you already have shirts and/or posters, because you are the best. But I would love any help signal boosting this outside of this core community over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks!

Great bit of armchair analysis, I thought I’d share here.

Great bit of armchair analysis, I thought I’d share here.  The Shoot-worked-shoot-worked injuries are great story telling.  The odd dub by Zayn wednesday gave us a peek that not all is as it seems.

Perhaps pro wrestling is at its best when we don’t know whether we’re being worked or not…

Last night’s episode of NXT – in which Kevin Owens tells Sami Zayn that he knows Sami is hurt and will exploit that injury at TakeOver – was taped weeks ago, long before Sami’s “shoulder injury” Raw match with John Cena. I was at the taping and remember being intrigued by this mysterious kayfabe injury to SZ.

Then Raw happened and, work or shoot, the injury to Sami’s shoulder wasn’t a mystery anymore. In fact, for last night’s NXT broadcast, the production team added a (pretty bad) voice dub of Sami acknowledging the Cena match and the injury but promising to face KO at TakeOver anyway.

So, the question is this: Is the whole thing an incredibly elaborate work, one written to span a month’s worth of time and two different WWE programs? If so, that’s some of the best story construction this company has put together in years.

Or, is it a “work gone wrong”? A kayfabe story about an injury that suddenly became all too real, forcing the reality to be written back into the fiction.

The whole thing – the backstage and the on-screen – is entertaining as heck, and this is what makes wrestling at once so awesome and so perverse. For several hours every week, we watch men and women appear to suffer life-threatening injuries. The performers’ ability to make it all look so real and convincing while simultaneously keeping each other safe between the ropes is the facet of this art form I enjoy the most. That they can tell a compelling story at the same time is more incredible still.

No one combines all these talents better than Sami Zayn. If he really is hurt, I hope it’s not too serious. If it’s a work… Boy, it’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.

What do you guys think?

Hey Lucha Libre fans!

What are some great things (shows/matches/movies) I should look up? I’m doing a lot of reading about Lucha but I haven’t seen much of it live. I’ve been striking out on trying to find, like, El Santo movies and stuff like that as well, but I imagine they have to exist somewhere on the internet?

NEW REAL LIFE MOVES:

NEW REAL LIFE MOVES:

NEW REAL LIFE MOVES:

So I’ve played about 7-8 sessions of WWWPRG and I’ve found that Power and Work can be dump stats. The ability to use Look (and a strong understanding of your gimmick)  or Heat (after a good promo) mean that  puny non-technicians can go far!

Obviously, with four stats, having a deficiency anywhere should create problems. (With no problems, there’s no drama, and no drama means you’re playing TEW2015).

So in the interest of expanding moves, here are some new basics I think would be cool.

“Town to Town”

When you get ahead on the road with sheer grit, Roll +Power.

On a 10+, you outlast all competitors: you make the overnight drive, finish the five pound sirloin or get to the show despite a 102 degree fever.  You gain +1 momentum and someone’s admiration, even if they don’t show it.

On a 7-9, you do it, but choose one:

-You’re shown a sign of your mortality

-Someone does it better than you; they gain +1 heat with you.

-A rumor about you spreads.

“This is my life”

When you show someone outside the business how much wrestling means to you, Roll +Work.

On a 10+, they see you in a new light: gain +1 momentum and their understanding.

On a 7-9, they get the message, but pick one:

-You tell them something about your life, before wrestling.

-You’re compared to someone you hate.

-An obligation is created about you and wrestling. What is it?
