I’m looking to arrange on online play test session (using Roll20) for my 17th century monster hunting PbtA game Malleus. No specific date has been nailed down. I have created a poll using doodle.com to arrange a suitable date and time. Anyone who is interested, please go to this link: http://doodle.com/poll/3d4ek6v3q5q7hk2f

The current draft of the rules is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-1pBGGjbu6uEgeTUK8Pgrmi7evjKFtx6ya4RU3TYKk8/edit?usp=sharing

I ran a play test of Malleus tonight.

I ran a play test of Malleus tonight. Overall it went well, and I will post up a bit of a recap if I get time. However, there were a couple of issues that came up with the basic moves, which will need revision to fit the kind of game I am going for.

One of  these was that there was a bit more investigation than I had planned. The game has a move for trying to glean information from obvious crime scenes, or scenes where monsters have been present but that doesn’t work well for searching for clues or information generally. General poking around maybe doesn’t need a move – but I feel like having a move means that poking around can lead to conflict. Anyway, I have written a somewhat Gumshoe inspired move:

Look Around

When you look around a new area, or somewhere that has changed since you were last there, roll +Reason. The GM will tell you if there are any clues, and if anything is out of the ordinary. On a 10+ you are Blessed when acting upon the information. On a 7-9 you get the information but you put yourself in a spot. On a 6 or less you get the information and the GM makes a GM move as usual.

I would be grateful for any thoughts anyone has about a move like this.

I have been working on a PbtA hack to play a monster hunting game, in a 17th Century Europe setting.

I have been working on a PbtA hack to play a monster hunting game, in a 17th Century Europe setting. In terms of fictional inspiration, it draws more upon modern monster hunting tropes from shows like Buffy and Supernatural but with additional rules that look to evoke a time period involving the Wars of Religion, the English Civil War and the peak of European witch hunting.

The current draft is very much a skeleton, and the archetypes are basically a collection of possible moves at this point, which will be refined and culled (I haven’t sorted out the advancement scheme yet). I’m looking to get any feedback anyone would like to give, and also to see if anyone is interested in play testing over Roll20.
