Just ran the first session of my game today and ran into a little problem. How do you handle minions? Like, we just went with a “treat them like a group, take them out with one condition, but it takes time if they’re a lot of them.” There wasn’t rules in the GM reference for them.

I decided to write up a playset for Masks inspired by works like Tiger & Bunny and Ratman. Essentially, a world of heroes that is run by and centers around corporations. I decided to bother some ideas from Nathan D. Poeletta’s World Wide Wrestling to add a new dimension to the game.

I tried my best to make the playset play back into the concept of finding yourself by trying to establish that the corporation you work for takes away your identity (your own hero logo) for their own and, on top of the other alterations, a custom, adult move allows you to take your logo back.

It definitely isn’t perfect, or even good,  and any feedback is appreciated.

I’m a little curious why “Unlock Moment Of Truth” is listed twice on every playbooks advancements.

I’m a little curious why “Unlock Moment Of Truth” is listed twice on every playbooks advancements. I took it as a sign it could happen twice, but someone else suggested it might be because you can’t select advancements below the line after six.

I doubt the later as that is unlike how any other PbtA game works, but it is possible. I still think it’s just so you can have two moments of truth and lock two labels.

My friend and I have two questions about the Janus:

-When you use your Mask to switch the value of your mundane with your mask’s label, how long does that last?

-If you lock your mundane stat, how does that interact with your Mask?

I thought this would fullfill one of the missions, but it appears I was mistaken.

Regardless, I made a custom playbook called The Kid. The Kid is primarily inspired by DC’s Captain Marvel (Not Marvel’s Captain Marvel). For those who don’t know, Captain Marvel main gimmick is that he is a child who gains the body of an adult when he uses his powers.

The main metaphor for the playbook was that type of young adult who clings to the idea they’re still a kid. Basically, that teenager who is refusing to grow up and become an adult. While I like most of the playbook, two of the moves are a little weak.

Anyway, without further ado, here is The Kid v.1

Any comments are appreciated.

Hey, we just finished our first session of Urban Shadows.

Hey, we just finished our first session of Urban Shadows.

Hey, we just finished our first session of Urban Shadows. All in all, we had a lot of fun with the system and really enjoyed how things went. That said, we had some questions and comments:

-We felt the Wizard’s intimacy’s move was a little weird and didn’t get what was it was trying emulate. We also felt it was a little hostile in comparison to the other intimacy moves, but that might be intentional.

-Maybe this is because we didn’t have exact text on how debts work, but we curious how you honor a debt.

-For the session intro move, it could be clearer that the person you choose tells you what faction to mark.

-We were a little curious how spectres work when it comes to harm. Like, can they get hurt when they can’t touch stuff?

These were just the things we picked up on during the game. Overall, the session was really fun and we liked the overall system.

I’m trying to setup a game to run with a few friends. I’m just wondering if the MC Sheet in Jul 11th update is the most up-to-date version available to public and if it still works well with the final versions of Basic Moves and Playbooks. Also, if there is more information on building NPCs available to the public.
