El Blanco: Bronze generation, “to amass more power and influence,” Angry, Afraid and Guilty

“Ven y baila con la Muerte!” (Come and dance with Death!)

Though Marco Capello is not the only leader Los Muertos have, he is definitely one of the most feared, known for his ruthlessness, skill in battle, and flair for the dramatic. Growing up in a poor neighborhood in Dorado, he was an outcast and bullied for his albinism, so he sympathized with Los Muertos’ message of feeling left behind by society. Instead of getting tattoos, which might damage his skin, he took to wearing a skull mask, and without it he can pass for an innocent street musician. Turning his old nickname of “El Blanco” from an insult into a title, he rose quickly through the ranks, going from an errand-boy to a hitman to eventually becoming the boss of his local branch, and his ambitions show no sign of slowing down.

*Pretend to be an innocent street musician

*Send coded messages through his songs

*Smuggle powerful weapons in his guitar case

*Call on Los Muertos thugs for backup

Ka: Future generation, “to prove its superiority over human heroes,” Angry, Afraid, Hopeless and Insecure

“I… WILL… RISE!”

After being defeated and contained by the Helix Security team led by Pharah, the god-program Anubis decided that the omnics it had been possessing weren’t enough of a force to win its freedom. From the data it gathered on the Raptora armor, it designed the perfect robotic warrior to serve as the leader of its army, and if need be, as a backup body for Anubis’s consciousness. Luckily, Anubis would need an omnium’s factories to actually build Ka, and it can’t take control of an omnium while it’s quarantined in the temple, so the world is safe… for now.

*Soar swiftly through the air

*Lead possessed omnics in battle

*Release a storm of semi-guided missiles

*Challenge a hero to a one-on-one duel

*Directly channel Anubis’s power

In creating original NPCs for my MasksXOverwatch campaign, I’m turning to the playable heroes’ alternate skins for inspiration. Eventually I’ll compile a document with all of them, but writing backstories takes time so for now I’ll just post them individually to see what y’all think.

Masquerade: Bronze generation, “to be whoever Talon needs him to be,” Afraid and Insecure

“Who do I want to be today…?”

Virgil Antonio was a small-time con man operating in the streets of Florence, until he scammed a member of the mafia, who set fire to his house in retaliation. He lost his left arm, and his face was severely burned (he has no hair anywhere, his nose and ears are just holes, and is face in general is sunken and vaguely skull-like). He wandered, broken and disfigured, until Talon found him and offered him a new lease on life. They fitted him with a prosthetic arm designed to look just like skin, and while they couldn’t restore his face, they used incredibly lifelike masks to give him a new one… or two… or twenty. Now, he serves Talon as a spy, infiltrator and assassin under the codename Masquerade.

*Change identities as easily as clothes

*Seamlessly blend in with any situation

*Fire a gun hidden in his cybernetic arm

As you may recall, I’ve been thinking about running a Masks campaign set in the Overwatch universe for some of my friends. To that end, I’ve been creating characters from the game and supporting media as Masks enemies. Here’s the playable characters, what do y’all think?:

I’m toying with the idea of a character who’s trying to be a hero despite being the apprentice/heir/child (haven’t decided yet) of a super villain. If I want their villainous predecessor to be a big part of their story, what’s the right playbook for that? Can the Legacy’s lineage or Protege’s mentor be villainous?

I have two questions about the Janus:

1) Can the hero and civilian identities be two separate personalities, a la Bruce Banner and the Hulk?

2) With the appropriate powers, could I use Dangerous Web to set up chains of events like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NnyVc8r2SM

Would it be kosher to have a Doomed who was able to stave off their doom temporarily?

Would it be kosher to have a Doomed who was able to stave off their doom temporarily? For example, in a show I’m watching, there’s a hero who has to regularly eat a certain kind of monster to survive. (Fortunately, the villains use those monsters as minions.) Other examples could be a mutant who takes medicine to avoid the harmful side-effects of their mutation, or a demon who has to regularly attend church or get dragged back to Hell. (Side note: a devoutly religious hero whose powers stem from an unholy source sounds really interesting to me.)

I’m unsure about this because on the one hand, they are still being killed by their powers, it’s just that they have a way to delay the inevitable. On the other hand, they could theoretically keep stalling forever and never confront their doom. What do y’all think?

I was watching a show where one of the heroes had his grandmother show up, and he didn’t want her to know he was a superhero but was worried she would recognize him even through his costume. What did he do? Pretend to be a girl while in his “hero” persona! And it struck me that A) that was really funny as a one-off event, and B) a closeted-transgender Janus whose hero persona is the gender they identify as could make a really interesting character.

Speaking of the Janus, what exactly does it mean to “affirm either your hero or secret identity”?

“When a villain gets hit hard, make them mark a condition as appropriate.”

“When a villain gets hit hard, make them mark a condition as appropriate.”

“When a villain gets hit hard, make them mark a condition as appropriate.”

What counts as getting hit hard? I mean for a normal person or a superperson without super-toughness, obviously if the villain is super-tough it will take quite a bit more to damage them.

Does the villain get hit hard every time a hero successfully directly engages them?
