What variants have people played?
I’ve run base, and played it a little bit. I’d like to play it a bit more and have a fairly amusing, but probably of limited appeal, idea for backdrop if I run it again. I tried running it via post on G+ and found that it worked OK but a lot of the immediate energy of the game was missing. When combined with the normal play by post problem of not having set times to interact, and thus letting it easily slip off the radar to interact with, it killed it.
I’ve read Dungeon World but not played it (I missed the session my group tried it).
We’re currently two sessions into the Regiment, and I quite like it. I feel like it needs some more of the structural elements on the MC end, but given how raw it is in the release, it is working pretty well. The engine works really well for the chaotic experience of battle.
Monsterhearts is a jewel. Give it a try
Apocalypse World and Monsterhearts I’ve played, Monseter of the Week and Dungeon World and the Regiment are in the house and waiting for me to have a bit of time, and Saga of the Icelanders I’ve read and can’t wait to play.
I played Apocalypse World, Monsterhearts, Monster of the Week and Dungeon World. You must try all of these! I’m a great fan of Monster of the Week, but recently I’m enjoying Dungeon World (and, of course, I like Apocalypse World). Monsterhearts won the hearts of many people I know, and it’s nice to me too.
I’ve read, but not yet played, tremulus and it seems nice. I backed Sagas of the Icelanders (my fellow Italian players said me it’s great!) but I’ve never read or tried it.
I have played them all, but DW and Icelanders have claimed the next position in my gaming queue!
Not including ones I’ve written: AW, Dungeon World, World of Dungeons, Monsterhearts, Murderous Ghosts, The Regiment, Paul Riddle’s Vampire hack… I think that’s it, along with 4 or 5 of my own hacks.
I’ve played ‘vanilla’ Apocalypse World once, and run two sessions of Monster of the Week (great fun!) I’m dying to get a chance to either play or run Dungeon World, tremulus, and Sagas of the Icelanders.
I’ve played Apocalypse World once, and would murder many a puppy to run it, I’ve played and run Dungeon World, and I’ve played Murderous ghosts.
I’m planning on running Monsterhearts soon, and I’m kind of curious about Sagas of the Icelanders.
Just Apocalypse World and Dungeon World for me. Saga of the Icelanders is totally on the list to be played though!
I’d love to give Monsterhearts a shot, but I’d need a group of very special players to go for it.
Lots o’ AW, several Monsterhearts and Dungeon World one- or two-shots, a couple Monster of the Week one-shots, a couple Murderous Ghosts sessions.
In the new year, one of my gaming groups will be doing a “sequel” to an AW game earlier this year (we posted most of the sessions as APs, first one here: http://jankcast.com/archives/1694). and the other has plans for a Monsterhearts game.
I’ve backed tremulus and Sagas, and have been eyeing The Regiment besides having near-zero interest in pretending to be a soldier. I’m becoming very completist about this system.
I’ve run and played AW Vanilla, Monsterhearts, Monster of the Week, Dungeon World, and my own Rogue Trader hack: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B3c8gGVv-YzVZmVpXzBsMlQteVU/edit
Significantly, I haven’t actually run a game that isn’t Powered by the Apocalypse since I got AW – it’s thoroughly infected my brain, and I can’t imagine how I GM’d before it.
AW, DW, WoD, MH, The Regiment, SOTI, some excellent hacks by tony dowler, a kick-ass GI Joe hack by Clint Whiteside.
