Something in the thread about the Space Marine Mammal made me wonder: do there exist versions of the official AW playbooks formatted for reading on a computer screen? I’ve gotten used to reading the tri-fold files on the screen, but i hope to soon play a game of AW with some people who have no experience with the game via Skype so playbook files with the text in normal reading order would be really useful.

John Harper made versions of the playbooks that fit onto a single page, like a character sheet. By happenstance, they are also easier to read on a screen or ipad. Here’s a link

I’m aware of the John Harper character sheets, but they aren’t really what I’m looking for. He also doesn’t have them (as far as I know anyway… let me know if I’m wrong!) for any of the LE playbooks.
Nope, he doesn’t. But you said “official AW playbooks” and I don’t consider those bonus playbooks “official.”
I’m confused because I thought the horizontal letter-sized sheets were the best ones available for viewing on a screen. If you’re not looking for horizontal letter-sized playbooks, what size do you need them to be, exactly?
I consider anything endorsed by Vx to be official, but whatever, that isn’t the issue.
And size isn’t my issue either… what I’d like is something in normal reading order. The horizontal letter-sized sheets are still formatted for printing out and folding in half.
Does that make sense?
None of this is by any means critical, obviously… I just wondered if anyone had made such a thing.
Unless by “horizontal letter-sized playbooks” you were again referring to Harper’s sheets? If that’s the case, well… those are great, but I was hoping for something containing all the information in the original playbooks.
In my mind the “official” playbooks are the ones that are in the rulebook and everything else is just cheddar. I mean, the bonus playbooks are called “bonus” for that reason: they’re bonus. But you’re right, that’s unimportant.
It’s difficult to fit all of the information into a single sheet of paper. I tried putting all of the information into a single page and it just wasn’t feasible. I mean, just look at a comparison of the playbooks versus John’s version of it, he’s missing the character creation stuff and the description for what some of the things do exactly. The custom Barter info is missing as well. But apart from that I think they’re serviceable, and easier to read on a screen.
And for this group you plan on running via Skype you’d have to hold their hands during character creation, but apart from that I think they’re serviceable.
Yeah, there used to be something called the “player’s reference” book which was pretty much exactly what you were looking for (except the LE playbooks), but that’s been “coming soon” for the final edition for… well, quite a while, now.
If I implied I was looking for something were all the info was on ONE PAGE, I didn’t mean to! I’d just like something where all the info is in normal reading order, rather than formatted for being printed and folded.
Ben Wray Yeah, I know. I believe I have the original player’s reference (possibly printed somewhere as well) from when I first ran the game before I actually had a printed book. I tweeted Vx about the “coming soon” business, and he said that the information in that is currently pretty much all contained in the other big file of playbooks and additional handouts (I tried to look up what it’s called, but the AW site is down, apparently). I think I suggested that maybe he should stop saying it’s “coming soon” then… don’t recall what his response was. 🙂
Oh well, I’ll just work with what I’ve got. The people I’ll be playing with are smart… I’m sure they’ll be able to handle it.
