I’ve got some new Skins for Monsterhearts on Kickstarter right now, and I’ve just been arranging some crossover stretch goals for World of Dungeons (John Harper ) & Dungeon Planet (Johnstone Metzger) along with more Monsterhearts gold from Jonathan Walton, Kira Scott, Renee Knipe, Ben Wray, Bret Gillan… and the list goes on! Please come and make these dreams a reality! I REALLY wanna play with the crazy stuff they’re gonna make!

  1. In hopes that I will get to play Monsterhearts again, I pledged. I can never have enough material to read for the game, so I do hope you get to produce anything and everything planned!

  2. I’m geeked beyond words to be involved with this, and extra geeked to finally be writing something with Bret Gillan. We’ve been laughing maniacally all afternoon, actually.

  3. Tony Love, thank you! I too can’t get enough of this gold.

& Renee Knipe… you’re just one squeak shy of a spoiler alert there, aren’t cha? 🙂

    SO EXCITED!!!

  4. Jonathan Walton, I know that Gray Pawn had a pile of notes and drafts and stuff for an AW HP hack thing, but I don’t know of anyone coming at MH itself while getting their quidditch on. To quote the gunlugger – Sometimes the obvious move is the right one.

  5. Holy crap Scholomance, hell yes. I wish I knew more about Romania now. Still “Transylvanian wizard school with the devil as the headmaster” also writes itself.

  6. Its popped up in several novels and gaming books, but never in a fully devolped form. GURPS Cabal had some info on it. I’ll see what else I can dig up.

  7. Wouldn’t have to be set in Romania, times they are a changing! It would be an excellent idea for a series. I knew about it long before Potter, but it would be totally great brain food for teens with fucked up relationships!

  8. Super intrigued at World of Dungeons/Dungeon Planet crossover. I mean, we’ve all contemplated “Dungeonhearts” at some point, right?

  9. Damn, I was excited without stretch goals.  I’m also excited that this is one of the few Kickstarters that makes me feel like a patron; I’m mainly backing to encourage Jackson to do more awesome stuff.  The things I get really are just a bonus.

  10. The second half of today’s announcement is so confusing to me. I have no idea what they are other than names of people and suggestions of ideas. The announced skins are interesting, the Dungeon Planet stuff seems a little silly.

  11. Hey Richard Rogers, maybe I can shine a little light! So, the “The Abyss” stretch goal is based off of that move, “gaze into the abyss,” from Monsterhearts.

In that part of the announcement, I try to give flavorful looks at some of the stuff that people are starting to make. Since none of it exists yet (and nor will it, really, unless we hit that goal), it’s hard to give absolutes about what forms things will take. People have given me descriptions of what they’re planning on trying to do – but the only thing that’s really been done before on the list is making a Skin for Monsterhearts, which Renee & Bret are doing with the Reanimator. I mean, even John Harper hasn’t translated stuff to World of Dungeons from other games. He’s going to have to make some choices along the way, we don’t even know what questions he’ll have to answer yet.

As for the Dungeon Planet stuff, yeah, it’s definitely campy. I mean, Adventures on Dungeon Planet is a space fantasy game, about people with blasters and swords and bubble headgear. Sure, the huffing rainbows part was a little over-the-top.

Anyway, I’ve rattled on for a bit. Did that clear stuff up, or do you have more questions?

  12. to give some context on my concern, Jackson. I back a KS project last year and uppsed my pledge to help puh it to a threshold for content that never happened. I actually wanted the threshold content more than the original project, so I was doubly dismayed. The Abyss-like hints of something out there some day sort of fuels my extant fire for “unlockable vaporware”.

So, basically, some really neat folks have vague ideas, which is what I got from the update. So, that’s clearer. I’m still watching, but $15 for unlocking one extra skin is about what I see came from today’s update. At least that I feel safe counting on.

  13. Yeah, once bitten – that makes sense.

I’m confident in all these folks. Jonathan Walton did something for Dungeon World’s funding campaign and is doing something for Inverse World’s. Ben Wray does stuff all the time. Johnstone Metzger has an insanely keen sense of *World games, and he delivers stuff on the regular. We don’t have any weak links, but I know you don’t know them like I know them.

    Trust is weird and hard.

  14. To be totally honest, the only reason I don’t have a working outline/draft of my piece right now (even though we came up with the concept yesterday) is that I have to finish my commitments to other Kickstaters from earlier this year (The Magicians, Inverse World) before I start working on this. On the other hand, I do have a bunch of art I commissioned for “Vesperteen” in the early 2000s that I’m planning on using for this, so the art is already done! This will also be my third AW hack focused on YA fiction, so I think I’m pretty solid there. But, like Jason says, if it doesn’t make sense to you, don’t back it! No need to overthink it. Not every game project is designed with you in mind!

  15. Another interesting Skeleton, idea hack or mine for Skins would be a retirement home/community for ancient monsters. Someone creative run with this if you want, but think a mix between Golden Girls, Dark Shadows and Bubba Ho-Tep. What could go wrong?
