Andrew Medeiros, as you know we play a lot of Vampire, so I see the Vamp class used a lot.
I would love to look into reworking Eternal Hunger.
There is no roll, so it can be easily abused. If I am quite hurt I just walk into a crowd and feed. Yes, I the MC can push back, but without the roll or the Miss, it is kind of hard too.
If a player wants to treat that move like that, they are marking corruption which is a cost of sorts.
Also, how do they pull off feeding in the middle of a crowd? Odds are whatever they attempt will require a set-up roll, so the dice will still hit the table.
That’s my issue as well, why should they mark corruption when they feed on a human? Do you feel bad when you eat a hamburger (please don’t be a vegertarian….)?
Are you kidding me? Vampire fiction is full of vampires who have to resist the urge to feed on humans who are unwilling victims. Angel, Nick Knight, Mick St. John.
Corruption is about losing your humanity, I think reducing people to cattle is extremely inhumane.
Well, not my kind of Vampire fiction, but I grew up loving Anne Rice novels.
A solid point. There is so much vampire fic out there, you could have a thousand different opinions here. If I’m not mistaken, you have altered the Eternal Hunger move for your hack already, haven’t you?
Andrew Medeiros, I have not … but I think I am as of now. Just planning it out.
Weird. I wonder where I got that idea from.
For the roll, I see it being a +Blood, +Heart… or even a +Corruption roll (like we have for the Malkavian penalty).
The good thing about the +Corruption part is that it benefits those people who treat others like cattle or don’t care about their former humanity.
John Layton, we just need to think of the options.
I think why I want a roll, is that it misses the biggest possible effect on a Vampire …. being seen.
Tommy, if that’s all you want, make it a +Heart roll. Use Take A Chance. But if you want more scripted options, you’re gonna have to make your own move for sure.
Here’s one take on feeding you can look at for inspiration. The Soul Leech move from the Incubus Monsterhearts Skin.

Another idea is don’t make it a roll at all, just extend the current benefits by saying “You aren’t seen/caught.” or something.
Now we may need to increase the options the vampire can take by 1, but there you go.
Andrew Medeiros, I really like that move. It forces you to decide to either heal and take corruption or not heal and not take corruption.
Also, either I will probably add a bonus or make no roll for willing victims as they aren’t putting up a fight.
Round one:
When all is said and done, the most fundamental difference between humans and vampires lies in their methods of sustenance. Vampires may not subsist on mortal food; instead, they must maintain their eternal lives through the consumption of blood — fresh human blood. When you feed, roll+Heart. On a 10+, choose two. On a 7-9, choose one:
• Ask them a question (they must answer
truthfully)
• You heal 1 damage
• They don’t die.
Note: The willing and unexpected do not resist, as the ecstasy of the kiss overwhelms the mortal’s system. If the victim is willing or the act is unexpected, take +2.
The corruption can almost stay the same …. thinking on this.
Going to give the move a try and will tell you how it goes Andrew Medeiros.
Tweaked the phrasing a tad:
Eternal Hunger: Vampires may not subsist on mortal food; instead, they must maintain their eternal lives through the consumption of blood – fresh human blood. When you feed, roll+Heart. The ecstasy of the kiss overwhelms the mortal’s system making it impossible to resist, take +2 when you feed on the willing or the unexpected. On a 10+, choose two. On a 7-9, choose one:
Ask them a question (they must answer truthfully)
You heal 1 damage
They don’t die.
If you feed on the same person again in 24 hours, you may not choose “They don’t die”.
I look forward to your report. 🙂
