  1. I think it is a great start, couple complaints … but personal opinion.

At first when I started playing World Games, I really wanted a range and melee as seperate actions similar to Dungeon World, but I find it un-needed. I think it is un-needed here as well. Which brings me to my second complaint, removal of that removes a stat …. which is good. No need for 6 stats, plenty of great AW games have 3-4 stats. Less IS More as it allows both the player and the MC to focus on fiction than numbers.

Why do you need health bonus? Isn’t the point of Cthuhlu the point that you are a squishy human and no mater what you do, that is all you are? So, I like the idea of removing Brawn all together.

Last, some of your occupations can be combined? Retired Cop and INvestigator, what is the real difference?

And why muscle for Criminal? I think something different with a criminal.

  2. Hi Tommy, thanks for the feedback. I’d like to keep Brawn in there as a measure of physicality as opposed to agility, and my hack owes a lot to DW as well as AW which also has 6 stats and has a melee / missile divide. The same goes for different Health values which are a much narrower version of DW HP than the usual AW Harm circle. I like a bit more nuance myself.

I can certainly be persuaded though (Claudio is working on a post about combat suggestions too).

On occupations: The Criminal is a Hood, basically, possibly connected to one of the gangsters and their mobs, and thus I think Muscle fits in well there. I’m not sure which other group it would fit better in either.

There are differences between the Retired Cop and the Private Eye – the Private Eye is much more likely to be working around or outside of the law, for example, and is more for dealing with people whereas the Retired Cop deals with forensics, scenes of crime, remaining true to his duty.

  3. I like the Brawn stats and, consequently, the equivalent move of Hack ‘n Slash in CoC because they are abilities not used in the fight against the Mythos but against cultists or other worldy menaces. In particular I love the WWII setting and I would play a CoC hack in that period (Achtung! Cthuhu, The Darkest Hour are just two examples of recent rpgs): against the nazis physical stats and moves are very important for survival, other than being wit and smart, obviously ;)
