Very exciting day today; my first RPG product went on sale! Legacy is an Apocalypse Engine-powered game of post-apocalyptic civilisations and their multi-generational struggles in a twisted land. It uses a pretty innovative setup where each player has two playbooks: one for their family, which grows and changes as the ages turn, and one for the family member of interest in the current age.

I put the first version together in September for the SomethingAwful Traditional Games forum’s design contest and have been working solidly on it since. Now it’s onto the second round of playtesting, and so I’m having a promotion where everyone who submits playtest feedback gets a copy of the full and final game when it’s released. Give it a look, and let me know what you think!

  1. Yup. I’m using a model similar to Fantasy Flight’s playtests – selling the beta for a reduced price and giving participants cheaper access to the full version when it comes out.

  2. That is pretty cool. Have you done this in the past? Had it worked out fairly well for you?

I am running a game through playtest paces with a tight knit group in a community, this may be something for me to consider.

I am not sure it will work as well for me though, I had planned on using name your own price with an OGL.

Sorry that is enough about my stuff. This game sounds really remarkable and something you could really dig your teeth into in a long campaign. I will definitely check it out and see if I can get a few sessions together. Are the playbooks free to distribute? I am not sure I can convince all my players to shell out $5. Does this work well for small parties as well? I often run for just 1-3 other players.

  3. Matthew Bannock Yeah, the playbooks are going to be free. They’re currently going through the Drivethrurpg authentication process, but for now you can get them through our site at UFOpress.org.

I considered doing pay-what-you-want too, and might switch to that depending on how things go. Still somewhat working out how to use the DriveThruRPG publisher interface though!
