  1. The playbook moves I remember are mostly about filling roles in a struggling community and the relationships with other people in that community. Combined with the basic moves of AW I think it would possibly work. You’d have to tinker with the stats a bit and possibly change the names of the playbooks. I’m not referencing them right now so I’m working from memory, but that’s the first idea that popped into my head when I read your post.

  2. Right. To do sci fi, i would go with Apocalypse World. However… I ran a con game and later a campaign called The Reaping with Monsterhearts. The short version is some very powerful monsters come to town looking for a winner (sacrifice) and they make the young monsters fight to the death for the Prize. In the con game, we spent half the gameplay building relationships and then toward the end it became clear that they were going to have to fight each other to the death. I used an abandoned asylum surrounded by guards as the battle ground.

It has the potential to get ugly, but it dissipates when the winner is taken below the city and impaled with the shard of a demon, ensuring the survival of the dark powers for another year. Muahahahahaha!

I can provide the entire scenario for you, if you’d like to check it out.
