My Urban Shadows campaign is nearing an end and our Hallowed, who is the descendant of Saint George and possessing his magical dragon-slaying sword Ascalon, is gearing up to battle Sludgebelly, the Dragon at the base of the Detroit River.

Here’s what I’ve come up with for Sludgebelly;

Claws/Bites 3-harm hand messy ap

Breath Weapon 4-harm area close fire

Armour 4

When Unleashing and Studying the dragon, take a -2. When Persuading Sludegbelly with threats, you don’t.

I think our Dragon-slayer to be is in for some pain. :)

  1. Another thing to look at are the troll creation rules in vincents Apocalypse World: Dark Age.

    or even better, the dragon creation rules.

  2. To quote the progenitor game

    Here’s a custom threat move. People new to the game occasion- ally ask me for this one. It’s general, it modifies nearly every other move:

    Things are tough. Whenever a players’ character makes a move, the MC judges it normal, difficult, or crazy difficult. If it’s difficult, the player takes -1 to the roll. If it’s crazy difficult, the player takes -2 to the roll.

    Several groups in playtest wanted this move or one like it. All of them abandoned it after only one session. It didn’t add anything fun to the game, but did add a little hassle to every single move. So it’s a legal custom move, of course, and you can try it if you like, but I wouldn’t expect you to stick with it.

  3. I’m sorry, that was a comment and jab more towards Drew than you. I’ve got a very particular method of conversation, and it doesn’t always carry well on the internet. I have a huge amount of respect for you, especially in your relations in the DW community. You’re kinda a hero of mine.
