  1. Great looking concept and I believe I’m going to be jumping on this one. Central/South American folklore is a treasure chest for fantasy that kinda gets ignored.

Besides that, I’ve been really interested in the Nahual concept ever since Ben Daimio became a were-jaguar in Mike Mignola’s BPRD. I’m REALLY REALLY hoping they open back up the narrative on the jaguar cult plot line to see where that goes.

  2. Is the book being developed in Spanish and English at one time or is it mainly being done as Spanish first then translated? I checked out the main site and was a little confused. My rusty Spanish skills and Google translate didn’t work that we’ll for the rules descriptions that have already been put up.

  3. Oh… sorry about that. That’s old information that I really don’t want to just put down. Now that we are launching Patreon, we are gonna be working bilingual. I work first in Spanish because is my native language, and then translate (I hope my English is good enough to make sense, for the final product we want to hire an English editor to check my spelling and syntax). Everything will be, from now on, posted in Patreon in English. And the website is for the Spanish versions. I’ll try to make that clear in the site.

Thanks for the interest, and for your patience.

  4. Rad, thank you!

In the comics, do the angel-hunters get mistaken for human-killers and face problems with police, etc? Is there stuff about them trying to live their lives with a secret identity?

Well, not exactly… killing angels is mostly like game hunting. Their meat and every part of them has lots of properties. And besides, in Mexico, as long as you give your share to the police, you’re good… sad but true. Clement’s fantastic view is charged with social and political allegories. There’s lots of material, I’ll try to translate as much as I can, and as quick as I can for you guys! =)

  6. Okay, that sounds cool. I think it is possible to get the impression from the pages so far that the comic/game is just “serial killers are cool” stuff, even though you’ve already mentioned some anticolonial themes going on. I see from google searches that Edgar also does political cartoons (and pretty scathing ones too, maybe? or that is what it kind of looks like) so I am glad to hear there is stuff like that in the comics too.

It might be a good idea to talk a little bit about those themes in a post, or if there are a couple pages that really highlight something about politics or Mexican culture, translate those next. It’s possible you take that stuff for granted because you live with it, but up here on this side of the language barrier, gringos and their dark horror rpgs are a dime-a-dozen. Native Mexican perspectives? Not too common, which (aside from the awesome art) makes this project really exciting.

Thanks for your comments and the suggestions Johnstone. I will surely work on the translation of some of the most significant material. And the angeleros are not serial killers per se… since angels are more like game, they are like flocks of birds, not very intelligent. Calling theme serial killers will be like calling a deer hunter a serial killer. This kind of angels are of course the lower ranks, there’s other ranks, more intelligent, powerful and dangerous. I’m working on a website to post all this theme references, so people can understand it better. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Will we see any other cultures from the area that were influenced by the colonial period (Inca, Mayan)? How about other pagan influences such as Santeria (influenced by African slaves in Caribbean) or even the European native pagan religions such as those that made up wiccan, druidic, or norse pantheons (Woden, woad, witches, and werewolves wooo!). This and Gaiman’s American Gods has gotten me thinking a lot about all the different cultures that rode those boats across the oceans over the years.

There may be other things, but not as the main focus. At the end, all this game will be is a tool for you to tell your stories. But one thing at a time dear friend =) Right now, the focus is the Nahual, that’s at the center of the game. And the main threat they faced in the past was the judeo/christian mythological beigns. And the things behind that. And that’s were we’ll be starting.
