So, that Hard Case in my Play-by-Forum game finally applied his Weapon Master move to his three weapons, opting to change one tag for each.

Behold the glory of his selections:

Chainsaw (3-harm hand messy healing loud heavy)

Magnum (3-harm close reload magic)

Magnum (3-harm close reload far)

I think this impressive audacity should not be tarnished by petty Keeper complaints, so I think I’ll let it slide. Let’s see how that goes.

We were actually chatting about how he might remove the “loud” from the chainsaw to get a lightsaber-like affair, but this… really takes the cookie. Have your Hard Cases ever done similar stuff?

  1. Ahem: MotW page 70 – “healing: This weapon transfers life energy: the wielder is healed for as many points of harm as were inflicted. E.g. if you inflict 2-harm, then you get healed for 2-harm of your injuries.”

It must be magic then, or he has welded blood collectors to it which are plugged straight into his veins. I don’t know yet, man, but I will find out.

So, one might argue that the Hard Case is only supposed to switch ranges and get rid of stuff like “loud” and “unreliable”, but well, the playbook doesn’t say so.

    The Hard Case move:

“Weapon Master: When you take possession of a new weapon, you may change or remove one tag when you are using it (e.g. “heavy” becomes “ap”, or “unreliable” is removed). The changed tag only applies to you. When you get this move, apply it to your current weapons.”

So, ho-hum. On what basis can I come out and say “you cannot do that”? So I decided to grin and bear it, and see what comes out of it.

But it could have been worse even, he might have taken “many: These weapons are small enough you can carry a large number of them.” or “innocuous: This weapon doesn’t draw suspicion.” for his chainsaw.

  2. Oh, he answered it already. I got a deadpan “Killing monsters up close invigorates Pete” from the player. I think I can work with that. So when your chainsaw becomes sentient and demands more blood, don’t blame me.

  3. I think being invigorated by plunging the whirling metal chain into meatsuits is still on track for “Who’s the real monster”. The game is heading towards its first confrontation, and the Hard Case might have to go through a couple of security guards (maybe possessed, maybe confused, who knows) to get to his team members who are about to be in deep trouble. I’ll keep you updated on the monstering.
