Anyone feel like a thread jam about cool game/adventure starters? Here’s a few in media res ideas that get me all excited to play:

Invasion

Aliens exist, and they’re here! The sky is blackened with great motherships and attack vessels, strange creatures are pouring out of portals all over the world, they’ve been here all along, and now they’ve put their plan in motion, taking control of the world’s governments. Only you brave heroes stand between innocent civilians and the Invaders.

Disaster

Something immense is destroying your city. A huge tidal wave, a meteor storm, an earthquake, a volcanic eruption, some otherworldly phenomenon, Whether it is natural or caused by a villain or external source, destruction of your city is imminent. You must hurry to save as many as you can.

Origin

A cataclysmic event, conspiracy, or experiment has given you powers, and you must learn to use them now to survive and help those you can.

Showdown

War has been brewing. Either between governments, secret organisations, or opposing ideologies within the super community, conflict has finally broken out, and it’s time to choose sides.

  1. Nice! For playtests I was usually starting our with an alien invasion to get them to pull together and put things in dire straits. Few instances at first and then full on craziness. Usually makes for a good first few sessions.

  2. Kyle Simons I liked your example in the actual play video on the kickstarter. It made me wonder what Optimus Prime or another Autobot would look like in Worlds in Peril.

Alternatively, a group of superhumans fighting off evil transformers, or trying to mitigate the damage caused by a giant robot war that doesn’t really care about the fleshy vermin scurrying all over this alien little dirtball.

  3. Another good one that might be fun is the Avengers Arena concept. Basically Battle Royale/Hunger Games with superheroes in an environment controlled by a villain. Maybe even something like America’s Got Powers. Form factions, take others out, survive.

  4. Twist on the alien invasion

    Team Earth

The aliens show up, but are more interested in welcoming Earth to the nearby galactic community.  They’ve proposed a series of goodwill sporting events in which chosen champions of the United Cultures Council will participate in.  Earth is invited to send their own champions.  Cue space olympics, with those pesky Kre’shar wrangling a loophole in galactic law that says earth goes to the culture with the highest medal total and have no qualms about cheating to get what they want.
