Sorry guys, this is my third attempt at putting up a link to the new 1.2 draft.

Sorry guys, this is my third attempt at putting up a link to the new 1.2 draft.

Sorry guys, this is my third attempt at putting up a link to the new 1.2 draft. Some people were saying that it didn’t work at all for them, some were saying it pointed to version 1.1. I can honestly say I have no idea what the issue is. I deleted the file and link and started fresh with it, so hopefully it works now.

Regardless, this is the last update until we get the moves tweaked from Jonathan and that’ll wrap up dev editing. After that, it’ll go off to copy editing so if you can’t download from here don’t worry too much about it. If you really want it though, message me and I’ll email the file to you directly or we’ll make sure you get a copy somehow.

Sorry for the hassle, no idea what’s up with dropbox these days!

  1. I don’t know why but i like the “the EiC will tell you what stat to roll” better then the

when you do it like that, roll this

wording. On the other hand it might murk up the trigger a bit more.

General question, why is it the EiC and not the table that decides what to add to the roll?

It definetly will increase the useage complexity of the move because you can’t do something like this:

I hit him in the face with the bud of my pistol and then press it against his left eye Tell me about Rolfball!. I roll to go Aggro (with Hard).

    You have to go

I hit him in the face with the bud of my pistol and then press it against his left eye Tell me about Rolfball!. I roll to Take Down.

EiC, what stat am i using? Is smash okay?

EiC: yeah, but it could be a really rough Influence too.

It just bloats up the conversation you need to have in order for the moves to work.

  2. I’m pretty certain it’ll become obvious and natural for people to not request a stat (i blah blah, so my roll with smash is X). It’s going to be obvious what to use, but for when it’s not and for new players, might as well have the EIC make the call. It’s not like you lose agency or that it’s a final judgement.

It doesn’t make it complicated at all, if anything it clarifies the fiction. It might be a couple extra words to say until people get used to it, but I don’t think that’s such a bad price to pay.

  3. Tim Franzke Doesn’t it depend on the character’s goal or intent? If I’m trying to get information in your example, wouldn’t it be +Influence? The softening the bloke up is just the, er, dramatic effect or fiction to realize that end, no?

  4. Yeah,  if I narrate something as a player – like I stick my gun in his face and ask him, “where’s Rolfball?” – and then I say, smash, right, for Take Down? Then that probably means that there’s either a case of a) a lack of understanding of the stats or moves, or b) an intention being poorly conveyed.

Whether the move triggers at all, for one:

EIC: Don’t worry about it, with a gun in his face, he blurts out what you want to know right away.

Or maybe something more like this:

EIC: Okay, so it sounds like you see him as a threat and you’re tying to Take him Down. You’re using direct force, so add your smash. Sound good?

Player: Well, he’s tied up, right, so I guess he’s not really much of a threat. I just want to scare him into giving up the location.

EIC: Oh, okay. Well this guy is rock solid, he’s been staring down gun barrels his whole life. You’re going to have to do better than that. What do you do?

When the text says that the EIC will tell you what stat to roll – it doesn’t mean that you only get one chance to convey your intention and that his word is law – hope that helps!
