In talking through things with the player of the Monstrous character afterwards, I’ve come to realize he may be “in” the wrong playbook. The thing about the Monstrous type is that it expects you to be both a monster and buy in to the idea that the monster in question is pretty damned good at working magic (as Use Magic is the only default Weird move, and you always have Weird +3 in this playbook, it’s kind of a waste not to play the character as tho he knows how to Use Magic).

As a Frankenstein’s Monster type with a murky-at-best memory, he’s more about the physical confrontations and not all that alert to magic, so a supernatural-creature-whose-best-stat-is-Tough is much more in keeping. So we’ll probably be switching him over to something like Summoned or Constructed. Summoned certainly fits how he seems to like to fight — lots of using the environment to bash things.

  1. That said, it’s worth noting that Use Magic could also involve “draw on your power to toughen up”. It’s a pretty flexible move that represents drawing on the supernatural to achieve a variety of effects.
