Let’s talk about the Marmot for a second here. Has anybody MCed or played a Marmot?

I keep offering the playbook whenever I MC but I have yet to see somebody actually pick it up and play it. I really want to see somebody play it but I’m also filled with dread at the prospect of trying to come up with Mysteries. If you’ve MCed the Marmot what kind of Mysteries did you use? If you’ve played the Marmot what kind of Mysteries did you solve?

  1. Not my cup of tea but I’d be interested to hear what others have to say. I did MC a game for the dog. He chose not use his teleradar throughout the game.  It made conversations…frustrating.

  2. So, I actually did MC a game with a marmot at #Origins2014  and then totally forgot this thread existed 😀

Anyway, I feel like my exposure wasn’t representative to how the Marmot should be MC’d. It was a group of 4 new people and 1 experienced player. Frankly, I shouldn’t have offered the Marmot at all because of how odd and tone setting the playbook is. Because it the players were new and it was a 4 hour games on demand slot we really didn’t get far on the mystery slant. The marmot did play a critical role in infiltrating a cannibal camp and then negotiating with the cannibal queen though.

All I can really say is that as presented the playbook can really change the tone of your game for new players. For more well versed players I think it could be played a lot darker and the mystery aspects could be played up a lot heavier.
