Our group has decided that we’d like to watch a wrestling clip before each session to help us get in the mood.  Any suggestions on short (preferably 3-5 minutes) but awesome wrestling clips?

  1. I read a GM advice article once that advocated Selling your player’s moves, and had a clip of a wrestling segment where the announcer sold a rest hold as if it was the most epic struggle ever.  Anyone know what I’m talking about?

  2. Bret Gillan Nathan Paoletta who was that guy with the utterly insane intro with the entourage like a time-traveler’s party, then ran around the ring being uber-gay except that (maybe not “except” but “and”) he was a completely menacing bad-ass? Show Willow that clip.

  3. one problem is that a lot of the really good matches are 10-15 minutes!

    But here’s a short thing I like a lot:

WWF History – Ravishing Rick Rude & Jake Roberts part II (tights off scene)

There’s a lot of good stuff in this one:

    – the commentators give you a synopsis of the ongoing storyline

    – Jake the Snake cuts a promo

    – you see Rick Rude working the audience and getting a cheap pop

    – Tommy Angle jobs for Rick Rude

    – the real feud continues with the post-match run-in

  4. Ok, so these three teams (Hardy Boyz, Dudley Boyz and Edge & Christian) are the embodiment of crazy high-flying ladder matches, mostly on PPVs. This match aired on RAW and was not one of their greatest ones, but it’s short and showcases pretty much all of the beats for a crazy 3-way match.

WWF Edge and Christian vs Hardy Boyz vs Dudley Boyz (Tag Team Titles Match) Raw 2000

    – brawl at the beginning

    – defending champions going for a DQ to lose-and-retain-the-belt, in this case DENIED

    – big tag-team tandem moves, lots of movement, not a lot of resting (with more guys you switch in a guy instead of needing rest holds)

    – Dudleyz go for a signature thing (Tables!)

    – nice spot where Edge goes for his finisher (the Spear) on Matt Hardy, who gets out the way and puts Christian in Edge’s path instead – great reversal!

    – Notice the pop Jeff Hardy (the guy in the white shirt) gets when goes to the top turnbuckle for the Senton Bomb, even tho he’s barely been in the match – he’s the prototype for the Wasted, where he’s so hot his very presence gets the crowd going

    The commentary…does not age well.

  5. I could watch The Colony matches all day, and here’s a really good one against The Young Bucks, legit one of the best modern American indie tag teams:

The Colony vs. The Young Bucks from CHIKARA’s “High Noon”

For time’s sake you can skip to about the 8 minute mark. The ending sequence is totally bananas (and could be a good example of one team/person having control of the match and tons of Momentum, but the other being booked to win the match).

  6. One of the two iconic moments I had in mind for the Break Kayfabe move (Punk getting the mic was scripted, but what he said was not! Also, his contract was legit up and he still hadn’t resigned when he cut this promo)

CM Punk – Best Work In Years

(I’ve heard in interviews that when Punk went backstage after this Vince told him “I smell money” – so that’s hitting a 10+ for sure)

  7. Here’s the other one: the Montreal Screwjob. Long and conflicting story, but basically, Vince told everyone, included Bret Hart, that this match was going to end in a schmoz so that Bret didn’t have to drop the belt in front of his home audience, but colluded with Shawn Michaels and the ref to give Shawn the win without Bret tapping out.
