I’m pretty late to the Worlds party and I didn’t know about this game during the kickstarter so I am just wondering if there is any way I can still get in on the party and get this game book?

  1. The playtest doc we have pinned up is pretty much the finished text, minus some tweaks and proofing. The book itself still has a bit to go – it’s currently in layout.

  2. Awesome way of doing things. I remember how agonizing it was after missing the tremulus kickstarter and then having to wait months and months for the pdf. Even now, it stings me.

  3. Yeah, we plan on making the text CC anyway, so once it’s done we’ll be putting the finalized text up somewhere as well – just need to add in backer stuff as per pledge levels, the credits page. That should be fairly soon so people can start playing around or even hacking the final text once we get that out there while we’re waiting for art and layout to come in.

  4. Kyle, I barely discovered your project today and was actually dismayed as I have been working on the same concept and had even (perhaps unsurprisingly) hit upon some of the same adaptations, like burning history/strings/bonds. So I felt a bit of relief to hear you’ll be following the Dungeon World Creative Commons approach… Although now I wonder whether I should continue ahead with my project, which I originally began several years ago? Anyway, thanks for considering going CC. Kudos.

  5. John Rieping There’s a draft pinned to this community. It should give you a good idea of what to expect and whether you want to pursue your own game or just hack Worlds In Peril/use parts of the text and what not. Good look with your game!

  6. I skimmed through the draft. Though we have some of the same adaptations, it seems we still took a different approach after all. I’ll have to give it a proper read later on. Is the draft complete or do you have any further intentions for it before finalizing it?

  7. I imagine some of the differences between our hacks might be because I relied strongly on Apocalypse World itself, and an earlier RPG project of mine, instead of the AW hacks.

  8. John Rieping The draft is missing a couple things and is pre-somanyedits but in terms of mechanics and concepts it’s all there. The game actually started out as a hack of Dungeon World, but obviously changed a lot while working on it and play testing.

  9. Okay. That probably explains where/why we diverged. Apocalypse World is definitely a hard read, in my opinion, but it seemed closer to what I wanted than a Dungeons and Dragon-inspired hack. Though I haven’t read much of Dungeon World, I’m familiar firsthand with D&D, Pathfinder and similar tabletop games.
