  1. Such an interesting discovery. Since the evidence only suggests “pre-1700 and female”, the progenitor could have arrived via Europe (perhaps as a slave) well after Christianization. More likely, since her presence elicited zero comment as far as we know – a liaison between a Norse settler and Skraeling resulted in a female child, which was taken back to Iceland and raised without any fuss. She grew up and had babies.

  2. I’d venture this happened after the bulk of the icelandic sagas were authored (which obsess over every minute detail about ancestry and lineage) or way before and was seen as unremarkable enough that it just kinda faded away.
