Hi guys. I need some guidance regarding drive books.
1) The characters pick a starting drive book, that’s a given. Do they need to unlock that book or is that something that it cool to have it unlocked by the backstory? And
2) how do you pick new drive books? I don’t recall reading how that is determined and I can’t seem to find anything that says explicitly how you change drives.
1) They unlock it, it can be a part of their back story if they wish.
2) You don’t pick new Drive books, you unlock them as per their write up.
1. Yeah, so you can either start play with a Drive Book already unlocked and ready to go, as part of a backstory or as part of their current drive, or they can start with just their Origin Book, working towards a Drive Book.
2. As David said, you only really need to pick a Drive Book in the sense of having something to work towards and unlock. Each book has a sentence that explains when it’s open, once the condition is met the Drive Book is unlocked and the player can start working on also unlocking the moves within the Drive Book.
I think I understand a bit better now. It seems then that there’s no limit to how many drive books a character can have open. Which kinda makes sense. Characters need to be able to keep growing and advancing and there are a finite number of achievements available.
This begs the follow-up question: are there guidelines to making new drive books? Cuz if I play long enough my players are gonna run out of books. Lol
We don’t really include any special guidelines for hacking or anything in the book as the page count kind of skyrocketed on us already, but I’m sure we can whip something up, see if we can drum out any hard and fast rules for it. Keep in mind that most players are probably going to have the ability to open various Drive Books at any given time, as dependent on what goes on in the fiction, but they’re probably only going to focus and work towards unlocking the moves within only one or two books at a time. Some Drive Books clash with one another, and working towards several at a time might make for a very challenging character to play, I imagine. Not that it can’t be done, I just wouldn’t recommend most starting players to try to play Moon Knight on their first go around!
