  1. Colonial Marines is basically aliens + band of brothers, so my recommendation is watch aliens and then watch the d-day related episodes of band of brothers. That should get you into the spirit of things.

If you have +Gregor Hutton’s book 3:16, the alien and planet prep material is fantastic! If you don’t have it, I highly recommend that you check it out.

Last, write down several moves for the aliens. If the humans haven’t made contact yet, keep all the moves secret and surprise there players with them. If the humans have made contact, give them some accurate information mixed with a heavy dose of misinformation, propaganda, and outright lies.

Start with an action scene! Maybe their transport is going down. Maybe the hive is swarming out of a derelict vessel. Maybe one of the team dies hideously under mysterious circumstances. Start with action or horror to set your game on the right footing and then follow the story wherever it takes you.

Thanks for giving colonial Marines a shot. Cheers!

  2. Paul Riddle thanks for the input! I have 3:16 but I’m thinking something more down to Earth (literally). Can’t spill the beans here because at least one player is eager user of Google+ and might spoil his fun.

The original Regiment was some good (even suprisingly as I’m not that much into war-genre) that I have no problem to spice it up with more kickass weapons. ^_^

I’ll blog about the experience when I have something to write about.

  3. I have a draft of the Regiment that’s specifically for playing an XCOM-type thing. When is your game? I can clean up the file a bit and post a PDF for you (it’s not finished, but along with 2.5, you’ll have plenty of stuff to work with).

I plan to do a completely finished version (it’s called XENO COMMAND) as a Patreon release one of these days. 🙂

  4. Really! That would be awesome! We are playing a week from now, next Monday. I would definitely be interested to play-test it and I’m also more than certain that Ville Halonen and Aki Vainio would be more than pleased to take part.

  5. I’m almost overly excited about this hack. I’ve been thinking of running XCOM game for years. We all have those games we just want to play “some day” and it seems that I finally get to tackle one of mine.
