MC or PC
Which do you prefer in PbtA games? Often, my favorite part is the initial setup with the players, as they work out the character connections & backgrounds, and as I ask starting questions that get a scenario started. That “worldbuilding” phase is often my favorite part.
Why not both? I don’t know who came up with the idea initially but I remember someone suggesting that everyone makes a PC and as long as your character isn’t in the scene you can MC the scene along with everyone else.
I’m with Delos on this–troupe style play! But then that’s because until quite recently, I usually ended up GMing in general and never got to play, plus I’m usually the member of my tabletop group who discovers stuff like AW, so I get GMing duty. Finding a game like AW where being able to share MCness causes so little brainstrain has been wonderfully fun.
I usually get stuck with GMing. It really depends upon the group though, so it varies case by case.
