What to do when advancements end?

Hi, guys, I’m about to end the saga I’m playing since September. During the last winter (in fiction), two players of three chose to add “change your character role” to the advancements list of their characters, while the third player chose to add “create a new character to play”.

Now, the third player has only one advancement left: precisely “create a new character to play”. If she makes another advancement, is she forced to choose the only option left, even if we are at the end of the saga?

Besides my specific situation, what would you do if a character ends their advancements while the saga is still running?

  1. I would suggest being flexible and doing what makes sense. If adding a new character won’t be fun, or does not follow what the fiction demands, don’t do it. If tracking advancement so late in the game feels wrong, stop doing it.

  2. I don’t have anything of value to add right now, just out of curiosity, did any characters die during your saga and did you use the “When you die…” moves when that happened?

  3. I was going to ask you “What when you die move? I can’t remember any move like that!”, but first I searched the rulebook for “when you die” and I found out the two moves (“When you die a Christian…” and “When you die a pagan…”) on p. 126. Thank you, Gregor Vuga, for having reminded me there were also those two moves!

Anyway, luckily for the characters of our saga, no one of them has died yet. They endured grave harm and they were also badly hurt, but they always managed to recover, thanks to natural healing, scars or Helga, the NPC seiðkona.

However, now they are on the brink of a battle with a dangerous man which lives on the other side of the mountains and who knows what is going to happen… 😉
