Archetype-Avatar time again! Today we look at The Dragon.
This one was….hard. The Dragon is very unique to Urban Shadows, encompassing themes of reincarnation, arcane powers and being a mother-frickin’ DRAGON!
I ultimately ended up deciding on Evelyn O’Connell from the Mummy series, specifically her in The Mummy Returns. Evelyn clearly has some arcane inklings as she’s able to raise Imhotep from the dead (by accident!) and we learn in the sequel that she’s the reincarnation of an Egyptian princess. And let’s not forget she comes back from the dead with the combat skills of her former life in tact after her former Rival kills her. Take that Bembridge Scholars!
Can you think of any better examples?
I’ll admit, I had been thinking about this before you even posted it, but I wasn’t getting anywhere. This is perfect though.
For the record, the best I came up with was Sailor Moon.

Well there is Farrovax from Dresden Files, but his screen time is about 2 pages.
What about the line of slayers? The power jumps from one to the next at death…
Misha B, that’s a cool reinterpretation that I had never considered! The Mantle itself being the thing that is reborn and the Slayer remembering it not because it was them, but because it was previous Slayers. 😀

Ancient Mai – Dresden TV Series. Turns into bonafide dragon.
That said – the series is not out yet (although the comics are) but the Immortal Iron Fist (or any of the immortal weapons really) fits this archetype.
Dracula in Bram Stoker’s Dracula encounters Mina Harker, who he thinks is a reincarnation of his lost wife. Also, the name sort of fits. ^^

Beautiful Creatures is a comic by Kurtis Wiebe about mythic creatures reborn in human bodies in the modern age. Not as awesome as Rat Queens but still quite a good read!
