So, I got a chance to play the Drake Edition courtesy of Emily Care Boss a few weeks ago, and had an awesome time. So I wandered over to look at what changes the playbook I used (Daredevil) had for the final version. And while I like most of them, the ‘animal companion’ as signature move felt kinda weird and jarring and not very Daredevil-y (I literally went and checked to make sure it wasn’t some sort of error where another playbook’s move had been duplicated). I don’t know how much this stuff is still in flux, but this one feels weird and off to me. I’d expect the daredevil to have, I dunno, awesome flying maneuvers or something as a signature move.

I feel similarly about the Daredevil animal companion. Don’t get me wrong. A companion is always fun, for any playbook, but it sorta feels more appropriate for a nature adept or something. It could also be available as a non-signature move for the Daredevil (and Nature Adept).

Exactly. When I was first looking, I was sure that this was a Nature Adept move that had wound up on the wrong sheet or something.
I see where you are coming from, but I really felt like the game as a whole already builds in relationships with the other PCs, so while the Daredevil may run off and do solo things, he may also run back in the nick of time to save a friend. So the companion still feels a little superfluous. And in fact, I’m slightly concerned that having an “NPC Best Friend” might be MORE isolating, in the sense of “Well, I guess I’ll go hang out with my dog.” rather than bond with the rest of the group.
I’m stirring around a few move suggestions for an alternative take on the playbook, and one of them is totally a “When you swoop in to snatch a friend from danger.” kind of thing. 😉
Anyway, I’m sure things will turn out fine, I just wanted to offer my feedback.
