I thought it would be fun to do a poll of everyone’s favorite Archetype but sadly Google will only allow up to 5 options per poll. So instead I’ll structure this as a regular post and I will list each Archetype in the comments and let everyone vote with a +1.

So yea, what’s your fave, and why?

[rules update: only 1 vote per person, sorry]

  1. I’ve not actually been a player yet, but if I play it’ll definitely be the Spectre.  I love the idea of playing a character who goes in and out of existing for the other players.

Also, I want to smack stuff around while invisible and screaming.

  2. Short version: My vote goes to the Tainted, but it was a hard choice to make.

    Long version:

My least favourite archetype is the Scholar, because I don’t think the Scholar moves fit the game.

The Aware, the Fae, the Hunter, the Spectre, the Vamp, the Vessel the Wizard and the Wolf are awesome archetypes, but I already own urban fantasy/urban horror games focussed on these kinds of characters. So sorry guys, you are urban fantasy classics, but no vote!

Next to go is the Dragon. It’s pretty interesting, but is similar in concept to the Immortal (both are schemers who have been around since before written history), whose moves I find more appealing.

No vote for the Veteran. It’s totally cool that you can pull of playing a character with a lot more experience than other characters without breaking the game (many other games won’t let you do that), but the Veteran is partially focussed on making things in her Lab. Making things relevant to the game took a lot of effort in my US games, so no vote for the Vet.

No vote for the Angel. Totally awesome, but featuring an extremely vaguely defined move (Miracle) that would be likely to cause some discussions and headaches around my gaming table.

Next to go is the Immortal. I love the archetype and the Schemes, but I don’t know if the Schemes will work well if they are in conflict with another player character’s goals. So until I’ve seen this work in my game (I haven’t witnessed an Immortal in action yet), no vote.

So, it’s a close call between the Oracle (a character that can see the future without breaking the game and without being completely dependent on the GM – I haven’t seen somethig like this in other games!) and the Tainted (a conflicted bad guy that actually works in the game – what’s not to love?).

In the end, my vote goes to the Tainted simply for being more badass. ^^
