I didn’t wake up early to watch live, but I’m watching the WWE “Beast in the East” show on the network now.

So surreal to hear commentary talking about Dragongate on a WWE show.

Watching wrestling, happy 4th of July to me!

  1. That NXT Championship match goddam, goddam.

I’m not sure if it’s the best one so far, but if it’s not its #2 (and really hard to compare to older ones, the context is soooo different now)

  2. The NXT match was so good. Cole trying to avoid saying the Bloody Sunday name at one stage and so on. Twas great…. I’m just wondering what you guys thought of the Jericho/Neville match? It honestly felt to me like Neville was being brought along for the ride, like I thought it was a great match but I got the vibe Jericho didn’t once let go of narrative control throughout, if you get me. …. even lesnar kofi was awesome. kofi had a great showing at the start, but I didn’t like how easy Big E was taken out.

  3. I liked the Neville/Jericho match generally but was mystified by the finish – it just doesn’t make sense to me not to put Neville over in this situation! I know that Jericho put over Finn Balor the night before, so maybe he wanted to have a win in Japan?

I liked how Jericho is using a slower moveset generally, and Neville’s a good match for that, but yeah, I had a similar vibe where Jericho was making sure not to be eclipsed. I try not to whine about booking too much but Jericho going over felt very…indulgent, to me.

It was my second-favorite match on the card, though!

  4. I’m not going to begrudge Jericho, this was his 44th Japan tour.  The live crowd was super into him and seemed meh about Neville.  At this point in his career Jericho is a Veteran with the Part Timer advanced role.  He probably calls all his own shots on these House show tours.  Which aside from the NXT title match, this was a glorified house show with no pretense of advancing any story lines.

David Ryan  I do like your narrative control analysis, I’ll have to watch again from that POV.

  5. I Just started Watching, cause you know…Dexcon, But I kind of loved the finish to the Jericho match, Thought I’d never see that move again.
