Oh, that’s just beautiful heel work. I already liked him, but that made me like him that much more.
Steve Austin talks about how early in his career, they kept cutting his banter out of the broadcasts and made him just another guy in black trunks. Once they started letting him talk, he really took off. I think theyre doing the same thing with Owens. He can completely work a crowd if they’d only get out of the way and let him.
Owens cut the best promo on a crowd that I’ve heard in a long time. I wonder if, with this “final” declaration, they are starting to sunset Owens’ NXT run.
Some various theories:
– Balor wins a decisive second victory over Owens, “freeing” Owens to be on the RAW roster full-time.
– Owens wins (and loses to Cesaro at Summer Slam), sending him “back down” to NXT for awhile (maybe until Zane and Itami are back from injury?), and Owens and Balor maybe trade the title for a couple of months.
– Owens wins, giving him the NXT belt to carry on RAW again, which gives him a bigger presence there, and he continues splitting time on both rosters.
One wonders… is Owens well-served by doing both? Would it be better for him to only be doing one or the other? With his straddling the line, the NXT belt being a major part of the Tokyo special, and lots of NXT divas showing up on Raw lately, it seems like the line between the two is really blurred of late.
Vince LOVES competition… even if he has to create it himself. I expect Owens to continue to continue to be a floating bridge between the two to bring legitimacy to NXT.
What I would like to see eventually is him losing the NXT title based on innactivity. Have him booked in matches to defend the belt on NXT and have some WWE stars run in and force a No Contest DQ… catch him in a loophole that he never defends because of all the no contests.
Kevin Owens is the f*cking man.
Adding this link to the reference doc, btw.
That is fantastic!

Then he can abandon NXT and focus on WWE titles.
