Hey there everyone! Just started playing Apocalypse World with my group a few weeks ago. The world we made is based around a nuclear winter and our hold is inspired by Viking ideals, but it’s still in the far future. Just wondering if the Sagas of the Icelanders books would be useful for this sort of game, since it’s based in the past rather than the post apocalyptic future like our game. Are there any resources in the book that would be useful for our game? If you could give some examples that would be great, I’m just wondering if I should buy it or not. Thanks!
Hey there everyone!
Hey there everyone!
Sagas is an amazing game, but it sounds like AW us a better choice for what you’re proposing from a system perspective.
It might be a good read for inspiration though.
You could always use Sagas for some custom move inspirations!
It’s a relatively involved hack, so taking stuff out and transplanting them into an AW game will require some tinkering. A lot of the moves are focused on the social side of things, the prescribed roles and norms of 9th century viking culture. Sooo…I don’t know. If you’re just looking for inspiration there’s probably already a lot of stuff available on the internet and tv about that period.
If you just want to mine it for ideas, info and moves, consider grabbing the pdf, but it’s not a necessary purchase by any means.
Gregor, you are so humble. Your game ROCKS! And Annie Malmstrom, you should totally buy a hardcopy and start a new game to run alongside your AW game 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I showed it to my MC, we’ll see if he grabs it or not. If we have any questions I’ll be sure to come here. Thanks again!
