I’m new to the Masks group, so sorry if this has been covered.
Looking at the KS, with six sets of dice, does that imply a group size limit of six? I ask because my group, which would have seven players, is interested in it.
Thanks!

You can play with as many people as you can spotlight fairly; you just get that many dice for backing. 🙂
I think the only limitation is the number of playbooks, and the KS is expanding that.
The player specific resources for the game max out at six (Hero Deck and dice) but that is just due to the colour combinations. You could play with any number of players.
On saying that, PbtA games work best with 4 players IME, and suffer somewhat at 5 or more players.
Agree with Luke, I’d say 3-4 is the sweet spot for PbtA, 5 gets messy, and more than that is outright difficult. I understand Masks has a lot of group dynamics that actually make the game work better with a slightly larger group, but I think 6-7 players would still be a challenge, because of how the conversation works in PbtA games.
On the other hand, if there’s 8 of you you could have two separate groups working in the same fictional universe?
I am a big fan of 5 players plus MC for PbtA games, especially ones with a big social focus, as 5 gives nice, messy relationship maps without losing focus and allows more variety of scenes. I’d play or run with fewer than 5, but wouldn’t want more players.
It depends on the emphasis on solo scenes. DW scales up easily, b/c the players are a party;Monsterhearts really doesn’t (because the players are individuals). Masks sits in the middle.
I’m new to running games, and have never played a PbtA game, so this is all new to me.
As folks said above, 3-5 players is what I’d probably recommend, in general, for Masks. The emphasis on the team should help if you’ve got more people, but it might be tough to give everyone the right amount of spotlight time if there are a bunch of PCs to follow around. That said, if you do try it, I’d love to hear about how it goes!
