Quick question – just listening to The Cure’s Lullaby and I was wondering if there’s any spider based Skins.
I figure it’d be the sort of solitary outsider who just seems to hang back, watching, not moving or saying much, until that one thing triggers a reaction. Cold and methodical, not evil as such, just analytical and needing sustenance. Possible Moves include feeling the vibration of prey via Strings, general web and gravity-defying abilities, causing paralysis in victims…
…and of course a Sex Move that involves devouring one’s partner, in post-coital bliss…
Females only. 🙂
Yeah, might have to reign that in a bit. Or save it for Darkest Self.
Existing Anansi skin by Renée is about trickster archetype and obsessional compulsive behavior . https://dl.dropbox.com/u/101511448/Anansi.pdf
Naah, doesn’t have to be females only. Gender choice is particularly fluid in Monsterhearts. The skin isn’t literally a spider, after all — just an ambush-predator type. We’re not really prejudging the character that a player will choose.
And even if it were literally a spider, it still wouldn’t need to be a female only skin.
I’ll have to check out the Anansi Skin later.
I’ve been playing with my initial idea a little more – I think that the character model is the outsider who wants to fit in, but doesn’t understand how to – they watch others to make sense of things. Darkest Self is about resorting to type, killing or ‘collecting’ victims. Normal self is about learning to overcome this, evolving emotions rather than simply understanding the surface and self-preservation. I suspect I could do with watching the film Under The Skin.
Under The Skin might suggest a good bit more, come to think of it, given what it is really about.
I quite like the Anansi skin mentioned above. I keep almost playing it.
The link to the Anansi Skin seems to be dead (from this computer, at least). :-/
Arg, it’s quite an old file…

Ooo! I like it! Still tempted to create my own spider variant, as this one seems to be a lot more socially enabled than the type of character I had in mind, but in the meantime this is certainly something I could bring to the table.
Cool. Will look into your work when it’s done, as I did 2 socially awkward skins spined off from the serpentine (a cold blooded and treacherous one and one trying to leave the swarm/hive which always satisfied all his needs but expects things in return) 🙂
