Last weekend had again fabulous fun with Masks.

Last weekend had again fabulous fun with Masks. 🙂 Two players with Legacy and Janus, would love to use this for larger group, but works surprisingly well still.

We had drama, friendship troubles, mysteries and superhero encounters. Its really surprising how much fun can be had with so few stats and moves. We played from 14.30 to 23.30 with short break and the game didn’t stall. I’m a bit hesitant on the potential though, as I don’t want want the Labels to increase and there are only so much Moves on the playbooks. I think I need to create alternate ways to expand characters as potential.

  1. Follow up session an a island on the Pasific with time troubles. We are playign a campaign with WW 2 supers and this is a long flashback from 1930’s when their characters are in a school for gifted youngs – with the Faculty seemingly aware that the students have power potential.

Thing started with regular rolls on the moves and it told that two other students got radiation sickness from mystery rocks from earlier session, so they went forward on looking some Godzilla puke (the being they saw did Titan things and puked out stuff and bodies it had eaten from future) they encountered a time tear where a Japanese Courier for the Janus players family was falling into a casm and looping backward as the time paradox was fixing itself. Legacy managed to take a suitcase from the courier and Janus dismantled the termite bomb. With two from the seven doses of future medicine they saved the other students, whch later developed powers. There was a great use of Insecure and Guilty on this part.

There was a bit clash on the stuff they filmed earlier, which reveal downed plane from 1950’s and that the small island is much much larger and it could be (basically it links to different times). After that they had awesome peachparty / math session on the beach where the Math teacher basically told them how stuff works, apart of the Time anomities, on which the Characters are much more insightful. I was happy how the Teacher worked and now I have Four important Faculty faces to players interact. Labels shifted a bit here.

Next morning Mark (one of the Students healed) was missed. Rival (the rival for the Legacy who is basically now his “Bro”) was anxious and the players looked him up. There was a set similar to King Kong (the student thing is combined to expedition and funded by film project that isn’t at all a King Kong) where they split, Rival found Mark and was blasted with his Fire powers. Now flying – overpower – flying superbeing made short work of the heroes but was Guilty as Janus player showed how badly Rival was hurt. He ran to the Jungle. Then there was more cries and Maria, the other student was revealed to manifest Ice Powers. Legacy managed to make her to go after Mark and fetch the Future medicine for Rival.

Rival got powers and struck Legacy player to another Kong satting but this was just a reflex as Janus player got some sense to him and Rival ran after Mark and Maria. Legacy went back to help two students Maria had frozen solid and managed to unfreeze them with his Radium gaze. He grew somewhat close to one, Jill. Janus had talk to Legacy on the dangers of Radiation and how Radium gaze was dangerous. Rival came back with unconsious Maria and Mark who had fallen unconsious when they had hugged. The Labels shifted like crazy on this and Consequences really ran the game.

    Will continue in a bit….

  2. Next the boys had a talk about a newspaper they took from the 1950’s plane. We had a long talk and absolutely fabulous “argument” about how the Legacy told how the Janus will become a hero as the paper tells and how he should emprace this and Janus told that the only thing Legacy was after was fame and glamour and that’s why he was endangering everything and not burning the paper which was making Janus Insecure and Afraid. (The paper rose up few times, made Janus try to burn it, tried to make Legacy destroy it and so fort). The Argument ended with uncomfortable silence and Legacy left to see Jill.

Legacy found Rival with Jill, with Rival squeezing a piece of coal into a rough diamond. There was some banter and the boys basically going “No Cool Bro!” and Rival leaving. As Legacy spent some time with Jill and basically chekking everything is ok Rival went to Janus and asked about what were Legacy’s intent – and grounding a stone into bowder made Janus to say he would watch that Legacy was good with Jill. As Legacy came back, encountering some more Faculty on the way, he and Janus had a “I’m sorry – no I’m sorry” moment. This was a high note and there was some more school stuff and end of game moves. We talked if the player needed something for playing the characters on the 1940’s timeline – which was basically no.

There was really great moment during the game, super battle was fun. Faculty worked well and we managed to get the Young vs Adults thing this time – which is really great. 🙂
