So in the last game of Motor City Urban Shadows, in the hunt for the missing Medium (an NPC who the Oracle had a vision of dying in a horrible manner, who happens to be a friend) the Specter decided to go to the Medium’s public place of business to see if he could find anything. When he got there he found that wards were put up against ghosts and that he’d have to find a way through. He tried to push through with the emotional force of the rage he felt from his own death, but failed (Let It Out, got a 6) and the wards tore at him, causing harm.
Realizing he’d need to find another way, he called on the young punk Fae – the Fae was known for getting into places he wasn’t supposed to, and besides the Fae owed him for taking a part in his death.
So, the Fae came down and managed to get the door open easily enough, then disrupted the line of salt and wax that lined all the entrances, letting the Specter in.
Once inside, the Specter tried to take a look around, Investigating a Place of Power. Unfortunately for him, he rolled a 6. Fortunately for him, the Fae was there, so he lent a hand, extending his Fae senses for enchantments all about. More unfortunately (for them both) the Fae rolled a 5.
The game ended right around then, as it was midnight (on a worknight) and I wanted to have a chance to think of some ideas on what cool things could happen.
Anyway, I’ve got a couple ideas, but I figured I might as well share with the community and see if you guys have any that might be better! Thanks in advance!
Oh, some other information – the group knows that there is a group of people who they haven’t met before (at least that any of them know) that have taken the Medium (Mina). There’s a group of vampires who is pissed that she is missing and the group has bumped up against (her boyfriend is a lieutenant in the vampire mafia/family and is looking for her in a panicked rage). THe last person seen with her was the Oracle, though the Oracle doesn’t remember seeing her on that day, and it’s now been revealed (at least to the Tainted, who has promised not to say anything) that the Tainted’s Fae girlfriend was the one who imitated the Oracle out of jealousy and later out of threat from the mysterious group who threatened the Fae GF more and more.
Lots of stuff happening 🙂 I don’t want to give away much more of my thought process of what might be happening (still not 100%, but it’s coming together more and more as things progress) as one or two of my players might actually see this 🙂
One idea I had was to have ghosts come rushing into the area now that the magical wards were shut down – the Specter had noticed a strange lack of ghosts in the area around the shop. Strange not only for any area in Detroit, but especially around a place where ghosts were often drawn.
That’s a good idea, but perhaps an alternate twist-maybe the wards wasn’t to keep ghosts out-but to keep some dangerous spirit in. The reputation of said spirit kept ghosts away-maybe it ate ghosts before it was trapped.
A spirit who is now free, and might know the secrets the pcs are looking for, if they can convince it not to devour their souls/something equally evil.
