Does someone know of a SKALD playbook ? If so, please, lemme know.

Does someone know of a SKALD playbook ? If so, please, lemme know.

I was trying to scratch some ideas to create this playbook and came up with the following analysis: from the “core” roles, The Man and the Woman are the clan providers, The Godi and Matriarch are the clan “controllers”, and the Huscarl and Shieldmaiden are the clan warriors. That makes the Seidkona a kind of a lone clan “troublemaker” (kind of the opposite from Matriarch and Godi). So it seems natural that the Skald could be a good “pair” to the Seidkona in the troublemakers role. What do you guys think ?

Going further, I envisioned the following moves for the Skald:

– an “insult-amplifying” one

– a reputation boosting poem (for someone else)

– a silvertongue/female seduction one (think the trouble this ould cause!)

– a silver earning one (though chanting/poems reciting sessions)

– a morale boosting one (+1 forward for challenges ?)

– dead praising poem (allows bond use for increasing chance of Valhalla/gaining 3 hold after death for killed characters)

–  if someone asks if you are saying the truth, the answer is always yes

Thats more or less it. houghts ? 🙂

  1. First thing I’d do, since one of the best things of Sagas is that it’s so careful to replicate the source material, is to read some actual Icelandic Sagas, and see how skalds/bards/storytellers behave when (if?) they feature.

  2. I would really appreciate the help +Luigi Briganti ! My group got pretty excited to play it and the first thing my brother said was: “Where is the Skald!?”.

    Thanks. 🙂

  3. I’ve found it pretty cool! Freyja´s Lover is exactly what I was talking about above. 😉

Im curious about the reasoning behind some moves (perhaps due to my little knowledge of the Sagas). Do you mind explaining them ? For eg, whats the reasoning behind the “I need only a glance” and “Omniscient” ? Did you based them in some passage from the Sagas or something like that ?

    Thanks in advance.

  4. Death Poem is an attempt to synergize with “When you die a pagan” advanced move, which determines if your name will be remembered or not. The idea is that the Skald should be able to help out with (or hinder) this through writing a poem/story. But I admit the way its written is on the weak side. X-D

About the stylish sheet, its based on Jason Morningstar one. I’m finishing this and will make it available soon so don’t worry.

  5. Yeah, I love the little futhark on the borders. But in my case it was Jason Morningstar’ idea, I just used it.

Now I got curious about Monsterhearts sheets. Is it really that good to surpass the futhark borders ? By the way, I’m in debt with myself to get Monsterhearts. I didn’t do this yet because the teen angst theme is not to my liking, but Ill fix this.
