So, as everyone else here I guess, I am reading the game. It is totally AWESOME ! It has been a while since a game had my imagination flared up as much.
I guess there is a typo concerning the Black Ice move ‘Identify an Intruder’. Shouldn’t it be ‘Advance Corporate Clock’ instead of mission ?
That’s correct. The trace has an immediate impact on the mission (by advancing a Mission Clock, i.e. whichever of the Legwork and Action Clocks is currently in play). That might have an impact on the Corporate Clock (if the mission fails).
Corporate Clocks advance relatively slowly and indirectly. Mission Clocks play out in the short term.
I’m glad it’s sparking your imagination! Thanks for reading!
Ok. Then this is a specificity of the Black ICEs. Under the two other ICEs, identifying an Intruder advances the Corporate Clock.
Ah! Or the others are typos. I’ll think about that and get back to you. Thanks!
Since activating an Alarm already advances the Mission Clock, it makes sense that identifying the intruder advance the Corporate Clock. “You got me. But I know who you are now and you won’t see me coming…”
I totally dig that !
It’s funny how many errors like this are being raised now the book is available to a larger audience… despite a relatively open development process that’s already allowed a lot of testing and feedback by backers… 🙂
Yeah! It’s really just as well that there’s lag between the PDF and PoD versions!
Getting back to your original typo, Antoine Pempie. I wish I had designers notes for myself on this! It looks deliberate to me, but I cant think what I was thinking, and as you pointed out, Trigger and alarm already advances the Mission Clock.
TL;DR: it now reads “Identify an intruder (advance Corporate Clock)”.
Hamish Cameron How does this one look, if you go back to the earlier drafts you’ve published? That might give you some idea of what you were thinking…
Ah, the archaeology of design documents!
Yep. I work in software development, so researching “why was this decision made 15 years ago?” is a common task.
