  1. Dark Sun? That’s my go-to for fantasy apocalypse.

A Sundered World is a well-after apocalypse Dungeon World adaptation, but it’s probably way more gonzo than Fallen Empires material. Might find bits you can pull out, though.

  2. A broken aqueduct. Among the arches a hold of half feral people. A trickle of water falling to a muddy pool, when the dry winds don’t carry it away. Dry clay, choking dust and the bones of those who came to drink.

  3. Huge, empty ruined cities (think Rome or Byzantium), feral roaming gangs of cannibal knights, a burned-out cathedral whose floor has been converted into a turnip field.

  4. The palace remains pristine. The houses of the elite, untouched. The outlying homes and places of work are still.

The cold took the world, snow and ice cover the land like a blanket.

    Everything stands, nothing is left.

  5. A temple to an unknown deity, the pillars carved from stone much older than the surrounding mountains, and the heads of every idol smashed

A massive ziggurat, now overgrown with ivy and lichen, its many floors inhabited now by a troop of carnivorous apes

An old workshop beneath the remains of a collapsed granary; among the more mundane craftsman’s tools and supplies, jars of what appear to be slowly developing human body parts, still twitching with animation

A massive wall, cordoning off a bottomless chasm. The world’s edge?

Enclosed by a mountain range, an empty city carved from crystal…with freshly cooked food still at the tables
