If a hero makes a new Bond(using Serve and Protect, Fit in, Against the Current, etc), Does it start at 1? or 0?

  1. At 1. Players can write it as many negative, or Bonds that are at zero as they like even (if they anticipate them being introduced in the future, want the EIC to be aware of them, etc.)

  2. Kyle Simons So, am I understanding correctly that I can exceed my bond threshold as long as I have negative bonds to cover the excess?

And, if that is correct, if I’m in a situation where I have done something that would allow me to gain a bond, but am at my threshold, I can still add it by also introducing some other rivalry immediately?

As in – Big Moe can do stuff with energy, absorbing it, converting it – he rushes into the burning apartment of high school science geek Barbara Morris, successfully uses Serve and Protect to absorb the fire and keep her safe and chooses to create a bond with her. He’s already at his bond threshold of 8, but he can add a bond at 1 with Barbara if he also adds a bond at -1 with Jason Gilbert, her jealous and clingy boyfriend who can’t get past the idea of “you touched my girlfriend!” to be grateful that you saved her life?

  3. I don’t think it’s a problem if they have lots of Bonds – they’re still limited by their Bond Threshold in terms of Bonds they can use to gain mechanical benefits since negative, and Bonds at zero, can’t be Burned. So let them take those rivalries and whatnot and have fun 🙂
