Had a creative storm recently. Some character concepts that resulted are shown below.
Alloy (The Bull)
Held hostage by terrorist organization The Collective, Miranda and George Shaw use a quantum AI they created to stitch together the disparate neural pathways of their dying children Kevin and Karen. They bind the new intelligence into an advanced android war machine to escape. Now the new being Alloy is navigating this new world, exploring their passions and finding their place in it. All while the Collective still hunts for them, trying to claim their power for its own.
Scrimshaw (The Transformed)
An accident involving mutagenic chemicals and a crate of smuggled ivory caused Heather Hernandez to transform into a 7-foot tall, literally ivory-skinned behemoth. Her mutation is ongoing and, without the mystic sigils etched into every inch of her armored flesh, would likely result in her death.
Riptide (The Outsider)
Atticus is the Crown Prince of the lost continent of Lemuria. Their civilization has existed deep beneath the ocean waves until recent political upheaval caused the nation to reveal itself to the larger world. Now Atticus, wearing the traditional uniform of the Lemurian Riptide Brigade, acts as the public face of Lemuria to the surface world. All while being pressured by his royal family to push their nation’s own secret agendas.
Tempest (The Protégé)
Freddy Fang can manipulate the element of air. Freddy is terrified his strict and distant father will find out, so he seeks out his hero the Iron Crane. Freddy begs the Iron Crane to teach him the ways of being a hero. What Freddy doesn’t know is the man behind the fearsome iron mask is actually Lee-Ho Fang, Freddy’s father. Afraid that his son’s power and enthusiasm will get him killed, the Iron Crane agrees to train the boy but keeps his own identity a secret from his pupil.
Hexbinder (The Nova)
Marcel St-Marc is a creole boy from New Orleans whose parents moved across the country to Halcyon City, driven away by grief over the sudden death of their oldest son. The only thing Marcel has left to remember his home is an old creole charm his brother left for him in his will. That charm is a bloodline anchor to the mystic realm of the Loa, and Marcel discovers he is the only one from his generation capable of wielding the power it connects him to.
Ms. Miracle (The Janus)
Amanda Washington is a brilliant student on scholarship to the brightest STEM magnet school in Halcyon City. In secret, she developed a nanotech material she calls miracle mesh. Now she escapes from the pressures of her daily life to revel in the power her suit of miracle mesh grants her. Look out Halcyon City! Ms. Miracle is on patrol.
Scrimshaw sounds like he’s on his way to Doomedhood, and the same goes for Riptide and becoming a Legacy.
Riptide could certainly be retooled as a Legacy if the Lemurian nation was cast as supportive rather than suspicious or antagonistic.
I never thought of Scrimshaw as a Doomed but that could work. I had the idea of her as Transformed because then you could play out all of those body image insecurities our culture places on young women, while being able to smash things in catharsis.
I love everything about these
All good, but I really like Alloy, actually. The multiple meanings of the name are all win.
Mike Pureka this is only the top six results of the brainstorm. Alloy and Scrimshaw are tied for my favorite.
Alloy could also be a newborn
Matteo Suppo could you expand on that idea a bit? I’m not exactly sure where you’re going with it.
The newborn is a new playbook by Alberto Muti and Tim Franzke. It’s a newly created being exploring the world for the first time.
Matteo Suppo cool! I was unaware of that addition to the options. That is certainly a good fit for the concept.
It’s not published yet I think
Also Scrimshaw is great as a transformed….because as an advance you can just GET a doom track as one of their options.
Awesome stories, thanks for sharing
