My third and final (at least for now , since I want to focus on improving the ones I have) playbook for James…

My third and final (at least for now , since I want to focus on improving the ones I have) playbook for James Mullen’s Troublemakers. This is the Hippie. After the last two books I did I wanted to create one with a more magical bent. As always feedback is welcomed and encouraged. I would particularly like feedback on the Wise Advice move. I’m have this nagging feeling I’m onto something, but that it could be a lot better.

Edit: Updated after feedback.

  1. Ha ha, I love this concept and the ‘New age crystal as a charm is very apt!

Pull a stunt is nicely in-keeping with the theme; for Chill & Cool, why not make it that on a 7-9, you change to the same mood that they change to? Keeps things simple and keeps the story moving.

The Newcomer already has a move called Sanctuary, but you could call this Sanctify: otherwise, I think the move is good, though maybe it should be ‘sanctifying with a New Age ritual’ instead of ‘fortifying.’

Wise Advice: this… just… rocks; but isn’t “+1 ongoing until their next roll” the same as +1 forward? Or did you mean something else?

There are monsters in the game who have strange powers, so why not make Free Spirit specifically about escaping them? Perhaps just “You cannot be trapped or held against your will by a monster, using any means”? Then again, this could also be about the kid’s free spirited attitude, so maybe, “You don’t take trouble when you don’t do as you’re told by an adult”?

  2. I’m glad you like the concept.

Chill and Cool, that’s a good idea to keep the story moving.

Ah, missed that on the Newcomer! Yeah, those changes sound good.

I’m glad wise advice is good. And yes it is, that’s my bad. I’m getting terms confused from other PbtA games.

I thought about the not taking trouble for Free Spirit, but the Mountain already has a move just like that so I wasn’t sure. If that sounds good, I would rather it be that honestly.

    Thanks for the feedback!
