Looking for a Kinslayer move for my Fallen Empires (with some stuff from AW:Dark Age mixed in) game, inspired by the curse and taboo in ASOIAF.

Here’s what I have, but not entirely loving it:

When you *slay a kinsman*, fill in all the come back or change playbook options under wounds that you have not used yet. You are doomed to die.

Any other ideas for a Curse of the Kinslayer?

  1. I like that but it seems a little harsh. Maybe “unjustly” slay? Depends on how you define kin.

My FE game is based on groups of differing heritages coming together in one refugee town (and it also has demons). So the Wolfshead had his warband AND some stragglers to protect. But his people tend to be working at cross purposes with him. It would be cool to try to enforce something like this but I know he’s gonna end up stomping at least one soon.

So maybe I’d use…. When you slay one of your kin, remove the “retire to safety” option when life is untenable – you are doomed to a poor end. If the slaying is unjust, remove all other options as well, as your kin look on you with ire and distrust.

  2. Aaron Griffin, I want killing your kin (blood relatives, as determined by the group at the table), to have a serious weight. There’s a legend in ASOIAF where a Lord Stark unknowingly kills his wildling son and *it is bad*. That kind of thing. Just? Unjust? Doesn’t matter. Anyone can *Justify* killing someone.

  3. The 1st Ed touchstone sometimes had to permanently cross out unchosen improvement options, but could never cross out “change your character to a new type.” I liked that a lot.

Crossing out untenable options is very nice.

  4. Vincent Baker, nice. Knew I had seen something like that somewhere before.

    Here’s my oath move:

When you swear an oath to someone, say the words and make your pledge. When you uphold that oath, take +1 to any rolls you make in the upholding. If you fail to uphold the oath, the MC holds 1 and may spend it to make a hard move at any time.
