  1. We use it as a mechanic, so we keep the name as is.

Although Werewolves and vampires are both from the Night faction they are not a group. In fact, they are at war XD

So, they are groups in the night faction, just that.

  2. Even Mortality isn’t composed of one group. A gang of criminals and the local police force are both in Mortality, but aren’t aligned or consider each other as part of the same group.

  3. We do refer to the factions by name from time to time, but mostly to refer to conflicts or arrangements within a single faction among sub-groups. So, for instance, we’d say, “there’s a struggle within Wild between the Winter Court and the Storm Court.” But mostly we refer to groups by their own names: The Sundered College (Power), The Fraternity (Power), Zheng’s Outfit (Night), Rico’s Pack (Night), etc.

  4. Factions for my game are purely mechanical. I like to have a sort of “class conflict” vibe, so there’s always at least one one “upper class” group within each archetype and one “lower class” group, and they hate each other, don’t live near each other, etc.

For example, there are the rich vampires, and the street vampires. There’s the werewolf street gang, and the supposedly hippie nonprofit “conservation” organization that is made up of werewolves. Etc.
