How do people think the Sprawl would handle a rotating cast of characters? For example let’s say I had 8 players but not all them can play every Friday night. But some can and the player count never exceeds the maximum for the game at 5.
Do you all think this could work?
I’d like to try something like this. 2 thoughts, though. Probably better with 3 players and 1 MC, to speed things up and keep it to one session = 1 mission. (Although you could do 2 session missions, I suppose)
The other issue is links. You’d probably have to give a couple out at the start for new players
Re-reading the OP, if it’s the same 8 players, just do a character creation session at the beginning with all. That’ll give you links. Otherwise, it should work fine
Yup, this definitely works. We ran a set of con games that started with a shared character generation and then smaller groups for the games. You might have to tweak how the links phase works depending on how many players you have. I suggest just saying no more than 4 can participate in any links phase mission.

I could really get into a game like that. It could be like Invisible, Inc.; a cell/mini-corp of highly skilled operatives running missions against the megacorps in small groups.
With life going on that’s closer to how a lot of game nights end up being…
Assuming one session == one mission, should be fine, as long as you have some way to establish links between players. As Eloy Cintron said, if the set of players is fairly static, just doing character creation with all 8 characters should work out fine.
If missions span more that one session, it would be more challenging to deal with a rotating cast. If you know in advance who’ll be at the next session, you could try and set up for characters to tag in and out, but that wouldn’t be easy to pull off consistently.
